Patterned Bridesmaid Dresses. How to make it work?

I am in love with the new trend of having patterned bridesmaid dresses.  My issue is finding the right one.  My bridesmaids are all shapes and sizes and would love to have the option of having different cuts, but any suggestions on how to do this?  I can't seem to find anyone who makes custom dresses these days!

  • I decided to go for patterned dresses for my girls, too. Hard to see in my sig pics, but the dresses are polka dotted. Because of that, we had to agree for them both to wear the same dress b/c we didn't know where to find different cuts or styles in the same pattern. We went to department stores to find a better selection of patterns. Sometimes they do have different styles, so you might try that and get lucky! If this is becoming popular, bridal salons and bridesmaid lines might carry more patterns in a variety of styles now.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I believe it's @ElcaB who found a patterned dress for her BMs.  If you want to go with a pattern, I would use a department store that has a generous return policy and sizing.  That way if you need to make a return because the cut isn't right or it's not like you want, it will be easy.

You can buy material and have a local seamstress make the dresses.  Example of what that might turn out like:

How many women are there in your bridal party?  Is it possible for them to find one or two dresses they all love?  Example:

I just do not understand this awful wedding trend. I was looking around on Etsy last night and I saw Camo wedding shoes, Camo Jewelry, Camo guest books, flower girl baskets, pillows. Why!?

  • I agree with the others to shop at a department store. We got navy dresses with white polka dots from NY & Co. @Elcab got floral Ralph Lauren dresses from Macy's. I don't think there's a way to let them have different cuts, it's going to be the same dress unless you go to a seamstress like @doeydo suggested.

My BM dresses are patterned, but I was fortunate enough to find a style that flatters any figure. If you want different cuts, you'll probably need to get the dresses altered. Remember, though, some fabrics are not easily altered --- not to mention the added cost.

How do you feel about mismatched patterned dresses on your BMs? I actually kind of like it, and with some coordination, it could turn out nicely:
