National Ice Cream Month is approaching...

What are your favorite brands and flavors? Or least favorite? Mine, as of now and in no special order, are Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey and Phish food, breyers mint chocolate chip, and blue bell peppermint stick and Dutch chocolate. FI is a vanilla, peanut butter cup, or cookie dough kinda guy and just gets whatever is in sale, but I think the cheaper brands often skimp on flavors and mix-ins. If I'm splurging on calories, I'll gladly pay for quality! The only flavor I haven't cared for is Ben and Jerry's red velvet cake. It was overly sweet and didn't taste at all like red velvet. There are some flavors I miss dearly. When my family went to Maine every summer, there was a stand that had a flavor called mint summer nights dream:chocolate ice cream with mint, chocolate chips, some kind of nougat swirl, and almonds. The best after a day at the beach! Also, I haven't seen Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby in awhile ( vanilla malt ice cream with chocolate covered peanut butter-filled pretzels--need I say more?)--practically lived on that stuff one summer while rooming with a friend in NYC who had no air conditioning. So what kinds will you be eating this summer? Are you more for fruity, vanilla, or chocolate? Any new flavors we should try, or ones to avoid?

  • I'm a mint chocolate chip kinda girl.  Yum!  I could go for some now.
  • I loved Ben and Jerry's Milk and Cookies.     Best ice cream ever !!!!

Sadly I can't find it anymore.   Grr

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I'm a french vanilla girl.  My absolute favorite is Haagen-Daas (sp?).

We got an ice cream maker attachment for our KitchenAid for Christmas this year, and the homemade ice cream is pretty much the best thing I've ever tasted.  It's expensive and messy, though.

  • I've had two different kinds of handmade salted caramel ice cream. It's banging.

Haagen-Daz is the bomb--pricey but leagues above the rest! We registered for the Cuisinart ice cream and yogurt maker--homemade ice cream is one of FI's favorite summer memories growing up and I'd love to invent some signature flavors of our own :)

I LOVE B&J's Milk and Cookies. Also, anything birthday cake flavored. My favorite thing at Coldstone is the birthday cake remix sundae.

I'm also incredibly partial to vanilla soft serve ice cream with chocolate sprinkles.

Salted caramel is one of the flavors I get if FI and I decide to each get our own small pints. He's not a fan of the sweet and savory combo--more for me! I bet homemade salted caramel is divine.
  • My SD is a manager at Cold Stone Creamery. She gets one free "Like It" size of any creation per day. So, I usually benefit from that once a week!! My fav is Cake Batter with yellow cake mixed in.

I know--so sad! And inferior flavors like red velvet are still at large... I LOVE B&J"s Milk and Cookies. Also, anything birthday cake flavored. My favorite thing at Coldstone is the birthday cake remix sundae.

I'm also incredibly partial to vanilla soft serve ice cream with chocolate sprinkles.

In general, I love cotton candy, tiger tail, black berry, maple walnut, and pralines and cream ice cream.  I love Chapman's Premium Chocolate Peanut Buttercup.  I also love Chapman's Premium Holiday Twist, which you can only buy around Christmas time.

Sorry! Apparently my iPad likes to quote multiple times...gotta work on that.
  • I am not allowed to have mint chocolate chip b/c I will eat the whole container in no time. I like coffee flavored ice creams next best, and I am a huge fan of chocolate almond stuff.

@AddieCake‌ I have the same problem with FI when we get mint chip! He prefers to eat as much as possible in one sitting and I like to do smaller portions spread out to make it last longer:P

@doeydo I've never seen Chapmans--is it a regional brand? And what is tiger tail? My friend makes a tiger butter fudge with chocolate and peanut butter so I'm guessing it's like that? Have to make sure I'm not missing on potential new yummness!

Hmm, it might only be Canadian.

Anyways, tiger tail is orange flavoured ice cream with streaks/chunks of black licorice.   It is amazing.

Well, I have a professional conference in Vancouver in January and we've tossed around the idea of Montreal for a honeymoon so I'll add Chapman's to the itinerary!
  • I love ice cream with nuts or berries. But I haven't found any that I can eat with nuts that are dairy free. SO brand apparently makes a cherry amaretto but I haven't found it. Their chocolate ones are good and so is the coconut one.

  • Blue Bunny butterbrickle ice cream got me through my mother's death and funeral.  Three of us ate through four gallons in less than a week!

  • Anything with caramel or peanut-butter cups.  I hate chocolate ice cream, though I love chocolate in my ice cream.  And if it is my monthly time, I like mint chocolate chip instead. :)

  • I love vanilla and chocolate chip cookie dough.  V always teases me about the chocolate chip, he asks why not just buy cookie dough and put it in another ice cream. Its not the same!

  • Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch, Cherry Garcia, Caramel Cone.  Blue Bell Cookies & Cream. Braum's (I think it's a Southern US chain) Peppermint with hot fudge on top.
