Question about DIY Programs

Hey there all!

My FSIL and I are creating our programs for our ceremony, but I've run into a bit of a snag -- all the outlines and articles I'm reading about doing this, say that I need to list the events of the ceremony in the program...however, my fiance and I are having a very casual, nonreligious ceremony with no readings, unity candles, etc etc. Therefore...I don't really know what I would list in that case. Is it acceptable to just skip that part completely? I'm assuming the answer is yes, but I just wanted some input or suggestions for alternatives.

Thanks! :)

Re: Question about DIY Programs

  • Honestly, if all you have to list are the names of your wedding party then I would just skip the programs.  Programs are really only needed if you are doing readings, prayers, having special music played or if your ceremony is really intricate.

The only point of the program is to list the order of the ceremony. If you don't have "parts" you don't need the programs, which is great!

  • It sounds like you don't need programs if everything is going to be straightforward.
  • We had a relatively non-religious ceremony but still had programs. We listed the processional/recessional songs, the titles of readings/who was doing them and a reminder of the address of our reception venue (not the same location). Then we had the names of our parents and our WP. On the back we had a one sentence "thanks for supporting us..." thing.

We also printed out the readings onto the program. They were brief so it didn't take up much space. We did this because the ceremony was outside and although we had 4 big speakers, we wanted a back up plan in case the sound sucked.
