Share Your Recipes!

I'm going to a 4th of July party on Friday with BF and we apparently need to bring some sort of food item. I'm really excited to go because the party should be fun (with a great view of the city's fireworks), but I'm at a complete loss for what to bring as I don't go to these parties often.

I know y'all have some great recipes that BF and I could cook up, so please help a girl out and share them!

  • @FoxandBunny -Do you need to bring an entree, app, dessert? What do you feel most comfortable with making?

@southernpeach89 - To be honest, I don't know what I need to bring. I was thinking more on the app side though, like a dip or something like that.

I'm comfortable making whatever. I would appreciate something not super complicated though as I don't want to spend a whole bunch of time making it. Also something that doesn't really need to be kept hot or cold, as from what I gathered from BF, this is an outdoor party.

ETA- Sorry for the confusion, I just didn't think about all the options that would be available! My bad.

I don't have any recipies i've tried, but here are a couple ideas i've saved to my pinterest board for inspiration:

    • Chocolate-Covered Strawberries - Easy to make and you can use white chocolate and then dye it blue/red. Regular chocolate and use red/white/blue sprinkles. Could be fun!
    • Pie - You could really make any pie and just cut out pie crust stars for the top...I really like the blueberry idea though.
    • Layered Cake - Just make different colored layers...not super complicated. There is a recipe for this one here: http://unusual2tasty.blogspot.com/2010/06/cake-tuesday-red-white-and-blue.html

I realize these are all desserts. Were you wanting more of a snack/appetizer idea that's not necessarily 4th of July themed?

  • @allusive007 - Those all look super awesome! I don't really care if it's 4th of July themed, but those look amazing. I was thinking more app, but I'm open to desserts as well. I do like baking.

As both BF and I can't stand avacados or guac, that would be a no.

  • I always love making dorito taco salad. I add sliced black olives to the salad. Recipe here: http://www.emilybites.com/2014/06/doritos-taco-salad.html

@allusive007- I love those recipes. I may have to use one this weekend!

  • Easiest app ever:

    -Block of cream cheese
    -Jar of pizza sauce
    -Finely chopped onion
    -Mozzarella
-Pepperoni, black olives, whatever pizza toppings you like

Layer ingredients in that order in baking dish. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Serve with corn chips. Freaking delicious and easy.

  • A fruit pizza (for dessert) is really yummy.

You get (or make) sugar cookie dough and then roll it out so it's the shape of pizza crust. Bake. Mix cream cheese and sugar and spread on the cookie after its baked and then top with sliced fruit. This is a big hit at my family parties in the summer.

Banana, strawberry and blueberry fruit skewers would be fun and somewhat "themed".

You could get red, blue and white corn chips and do a dip or salsa with it.

Meatballs are always a hit - 1 jar of grape jelly, 1 bottle of favorite BBQ sauce and a package of frozen meatballs. Cook in crockpot on low for 6 hrs. (you could take to the party hot - wouldn't really even have to plug in)

Little Smokies - H's aunt wraps little smokies with pieces of bacon and secures with a toothpick. Fill crockpot and sprinkle with brown sugar. Cook on low until bacon

  • You can do mini caprese skewers- Get mini skewer sticks or toothpicks and layer a mozzarella cheese ball, a piece of fresh basil, and a cherry tomato. Then drizzle them with olive oil, balsamic vinaigrette, and black pepper and salt. You can do Black Bean salad: http://www.onceuponachef.com/2010/08/black-bean-salad-with-corn-red-peppers-avocado-lime-cilantro-vinaigrette.html Or.....MINI CORNDOG MUFFINS!!! http://www.recipebyphoto.com/mini-corn-dog-muffins/
  • Ok, these all look delicious. So many options! I may end up having BF decide, because I'm going to have so much trouble choosing.

  • I've made a smores dip before melting together chocolate chip with marshallow fluf and having graham crackers for dipping.

@twodimes I do have a recipe for kahlua dip and it's amazing!!!

    KAHLUA DIP

1 block cream cheese (kind of softened, leave it out for an hour or so)
    1 cup sour cream
    1 cup cool whip
    3/4 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup kahlua

Whip with an electric mixer until smooth. Refrigerate for at least an hour.
    Serve with strawberries and bananas.

ETA: When @goldenpenguin, @swazzle, @hummingbird125 and @csousa1 were at my house a few weekends ago, @goldenpenguin made an AMAZING cannoli dip, that's also another option.
