Engagement Party Thank You Notes

My FILs threw us an engagement part on Friday, and I am taking care of the thank you notes today. We are obviously sending a TY to anyone who brought us a gift (I never would've expected gifts at an engagement party, but apparently this is a thing?), but here's where I'm unsure: should we also send a TY to the 4 couples who brought us a bottle of wine or to the couple who gave us a box of chocolates? What about to the people who came without a gift, should we still send a TY to thank them for coming?

I don't want to NOT send a note to someone who should get one, but I'm not sure if they should be sent out to absolutely everyone who attended.

What would you do?

I think chocolates and wine are gifts, so I would write a thank you note.

I agree.  I'd also write a thank you note for these.

I would send a thank you note to everyone who gave a gift. I would consider a bottle of wine and chocolates a gift.

Ditto PPs. I wouldn't send a thank you note just for attendance.

Thanks all; I was really on the fence about the wine/chocolate gifts, but I feel like it would be better to do an unexpected TY note as opposed to not sending one to someone who's expecting it.

@pinkcow13 I agree! But for some reason FMIL has put the wine away with the rest of our gifts...le sad!!

I'm new to TY notes and have started sending them for absolutely everything, just so I'll be used to it by the time the wave of gifts arrive.  I sent one to my aunt and uncle for hosting a bunch of family members over the weekend of my grampa's funeral.  I sent one to my gramma for sending me a small box of a few of grampa's things.  I am determined to make this become a 'thing'.
