HELP!

I am set to be married the 25th of this month, in Las Vegas... It was kind of a last minute decision, so i've been rushing around ever since. I finally found my dream dress, and had it altered... Everything is taken care of for the wedding except for one thing..... I have no clue how I am going to get my dress there.....  I have paid for a carry on for my flight, but I have no idea what size box I need or anything... My dress is a tea length, that is quite voluminous. Some suggestions would be lovely! Thanks!!!

Re: HELP!

  • I just carried my dress onto the plane in the garment bag. I didn't want to risk checking it or having it out of my possession. Most airplanes have a closet in first class that can be used to hang your dress (even if not flying first class, just ask the flight attendant when boarding plane). On my flight to wedding, there were no issues hanging the dress in the front closet. Actually, I even had 2 garment bags because I took my husbands suit with me also. On my flight home, it was a smaller plane that didn't have a closet. The flight attendant just told me to lay it flat in the overhead bin. Or if flight is crowded and space is a real issue, you may be able to roll the garment bag up to fit in the bin without taking as much space. Leaving it flat or hanging as much as possible will help to prevent wrinkles during travel. Usually the airlines and flight attendants will be very accommodating to make sure your dress is kept as safe as possible. So, I would just leave it in the garment bag for traveling. Oh, and I had no issues taking the garment bags in addition to my other carry on bag... nobody even questioned it. Although it probably helped that my dress was in a pink garment bag and we had "bride" and "groom" luggage tags on them. But nobody questioned having more carry-on bags than allowed or garment bags being larger than allowed size for carry on. I flew Delta there and Southwest going home. Some of the cheaper discount airlines (Funjet, Allegiant, etc) are less likely to have closets, but I've heard they are usually still pretty accommodating.

  • I would call the airline and see if carrying on the plane is an option. I've read of situations where brides have had to check in their dresses or could not bring them on the planes. Just double check before assuming. Good luck :)
