Hello!

Anyone in the Knot community planning a 10/31/15 wedding like me? It falls on a Saturday and it couldn't be more perfect for my FI and me, we both love Halloween. We are incorporating lots of cute Halloween decor--- pumpkins and candy especially, but I'm strictly staying away from a Gothic theme.

One big question I had though is that everyone keeps asking me if it's a dress-up wedding. It's not. It's a normal wedding (semi-formal attire) that happens to be on Halloween. Can I put something like "semi-formal attire" or "cocktail" attire on my website, or perhaps my reception card in the invitation? Has anyone run into this problem?

I would also love to hear your ideas for your Halloween wedding!

EDIT: I read through lots of etiquette tips and will not be posting anything regarding attire on my invitations.

  • My, cousin did a "dress-up" wedding, it was a ton of fun, she listed that people should dress up and "have fun with it", but since you want to make it clear I would include the expected attire for the event. I have seen invites that have the attire listed when it isn't really a question of how to dress, I don't see you including it to make it clear being a problem.

My first son was born on Halloween it is a fun time lots of party ideas!

@peachy13 I am also having a 10/31/2015 Hallowedding!!  We love love love the date!  We are doing similar with cute decore, etc.  However, we are asking for appropriate wedding attire to be the basis of the outfit, but encouraging accessories, such as masquerade masks, boas or similar fare.  Our wedding is going to be in New Orleans, and it is crazy there on Halloween, especially in the French Quarter, where we will be having it.  I have put the information on our wedding website only.  :)
  • @peachy13 I also bought a lot of Halloween type decor, lighting, etc for unbelievable prices at after Halloween sales this year.  Sounds like you did the same!
  • @edenisle congrats!!! Love that it's going to take place in New Orleans; that sounds really awesome. It'll be here before we know it!

  • Hello,
I too am doing a Halloween wedding next year and couldn't be more excited! I contemplated letting people dress up but then decided to keep if classy by having Halloween accents like the colors we are choosing and having some Halloween decor. I do like having the option of letting those bring an accessory item like a mask etc. I also contemplating looking beautiful for most the night and then halfway through zombiefying myself, and the wedding party and coming out to thriller by Michael jackson. So many cool ideas, now just have to decide what direction to go with the wedding :)
