Beautiful beach!  @inkdancer - where is that?
Emerald Isle, NC... smack in the middle of Hurricane Arthur right now, but tomorrow it's supposed to be blue skies again!

  • Thanks! I will gladly take all of your suggestions. I'm really looking forward to it. V visits his family twice a year so he tries to makeup for it by staying for a bit. V jokes that where he is from is a tiny Europe because all the surrounding owns are named after towns in Europe ha. His mom is so excited to meet me too. She had stuff made and the fireplace fixed up for our visit. I hope I don't disappoint.
I'm sure you'll do fine :) I looooooove Georgia, and I'm DYING to go back and visit everybody. You're going to have a great time!

ha!  I wondered if it was NC....the beaches there are wonderful!  Enjoy!
  • Minor vent- This is the first year in at least 10 years that I have not traveled. I promised DH a nice Caribbean AI vacation when my business travel was done in June. We just wanted to sit on a beach and drink/eat all day. I essentially lived apart from him for 7 months while I was on this trip. Then we were planning on going to London for our annual Thanksgiving trip. I usually go away 3-4 times a year. We are trying to plan a few things for next year, but I may need to rethink the one trip (London/Maldives) in light of our pension freeze since it's an expensive venture.

All in all, I'm quite envious of everyone's plans!!

Thanks! I think I will too. I'm kinda looking forward to meeting V's uncle. He has a plantation and owns hunting hounds. It's a completely foreign world to me plus I want to be able to say release the hounds once in my life!

  • What I wouldn't give for that view at the moment. We're currently in Iceland, and it has been cloudy, 10C and rainy for the last 3 days here. I have worn long underwear every day so far and I'm still freezing. We also thought diving in glacial runoff (a couple of degrees above freezing) would be a great idea this morning. It was beautiful though. I wasn't expecting it to be this cold though. Or the wind. It's crazy windy here. I've been this far north in Canada and it's much warner in July. It has been awesome though. We are off to more of Northern Europe next week

ha!  My DH and I went to Iceland a couple years back in November.  He keeps mentioning how he'd like to go back during the "summer".   Didn't realize it would be that cold.  Did you get to the Blue Lagoon?  My favorite place.  It was snowing when were were there and it was pretty neat.

I feel you on that! We went swimming in the Arctic when I visited family in Alaska and it was really frakkin cold!

Come sit on my balcony and have a margarita with me!

We're going to be in Iceland in 2 weeks as part of our honeymoon cruise. Thanks for the heads up on the cold! We're going to Newfoundland and Labrador, Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Norway and Amsterdam on our cruise. It's just over a week away now!

  • @JoanE2012‌ apparently 11C is average for July, though Reykjavik can get into the high teens. The wind is crazy though. I bought a touque here and bring little gloves with you. Lots of layers are good. We're off to the Blue Lagoon tomorrow I think. @LadyMillil‌ who are you with?? That sounds like a pretty cool cruise DH told me that Helsinki (next stop) is supposed to be 25C tomorrow!! I'm so freaking excited to be warm again in a couple of days

  • @WinstonsGirl‌ we are with Holland America. We fully expect the other passengers to be twice our age. It was the only cruise line that stopped in both Iceland and Greenland and fit my schedule.

  • I'm jealous you're stopping in Greenland. And I'd like to amend. Y previous post. The wind died down and the sun finally came out, and it was much nicer here today. Still cool, but not freezing my ass off weather. Didn't need gloves. But if the wind picks up, which it often does apparently, it is a crazy cold wind

No vacations for me this summer. Grabbing a weekend in San Francisco in late September, and another in New Orleans in October, but nothing huge or major.

(I have a friend from New Zealand staying for the week, so I've been playing tourist in my own city for the past few days, and surprised at how fun it is. I forget how lovely Seattle is, and don't take as much time to enjoy it as I should. Yesterday we left the city and drove into the mountains, and it was breathtaking. I feel rejuvenated. A nice break from all the wedding drama.)

Also, if I can organize a New Zealand trip, I now have a lovely place to stay. Yay for friends that live in great locations.
