One Shoulder Dresses

My wedding dress is a one shoulder dress. Would it be too much or too matched if my bridemaids wore a one shoulder dress as well? Does anyone have any pictures from their own wedding as an example?

Re: One Shoulder Dresses

  • I wore a one shoulder but my BMs wore strapless.  I don't think, however that if you had one shoulder and your BMs had one shoulder it would be too much.  I mean a lot of brides wear strapless and so do their BMs.  What does your dress look like?  What does the strap look like?  Maybe find a BM dress that has a different style strap so that they don't look too similar?

I did find this picture (not great) but the BMs strap is different then the brides and I think it all looks great together.

Personally, I would probably try to avoid having the bridesmaids wearing the same or a similar neckline as myself.  Brides and bridesmaids who both wore one shoulder dresses:

  • I don't know why I'm feeling this way, but I think it would be fine as long as your BM dresses had the one shoulder on the same side as you. I think it might be odd only if the straps were on different sides.

  • Personally, I don't think what kind of neckline matters one bit! But then again, I'm wearing a strapless sweetheart, one BM has a halter, and another has two straps with an illusion neckline. Here is a pic I found of one strap on everyone, different side straps on the MOH's.
  • I think it would be fine as long as you don't go too matchy-matchy. So if you're mimicking the neckline of your dress, do a silhouette and a fabric that's different.
  • None of that matters to me, honestly. I don't even see a problem with being somewhat matchy-matchy. Unless you're all wearing wedding dresses (like bridesmaids actually used to do, to confuse evil spirits!), nobody is going to mix you up. So what if you're all wearing satin or you all have a sweetheart neckline with one strap? It should still be pretty obvious who is getting married. If it's not, you have bigger problems. The only thing that would look "off" to me is if you were all wearing lace but the patterns didn't match. Opposite-shoulders look fine too, IMO.
