Can I add a sash to this dress?

This is the Maggie Sottero Yara gown. I'm totally fashion disabled so I was wondering if I can add a sash to it? Or would that be weird? Wanted to incorporate some sapphires.

  • I think you can add a sash to just about anything, including that dress. It will just be a matter of where on your waist (higher, lower, etc) it is the most flattering.

***Disclaimer***  I am the last person that should be offering fashion advice.

I would not add a sash to the dress.  The bodice ruching falls in an asymmetrical pattern.  I think a sash that falls horizontallyimage across that pattern might look "off".  Could you add the sapphires through your headpiece or jewelry?  Perhaps you could find a pair of shoes with sapphire embellishments, or add a clip to your shoes.  If you wear your hair up, a dramatic sapphire necklace that falls behind your neck might look pretty.

  • I wouldn't. Wear sapphire jewelry instead.
  • I could absolutely wear sapphire jewelry. There is this kinda iffy hip embellishment on this dress I thought about removing and then adding a less iffy sapphire embellishment and then adding some sapphire crystals in the bodice as well. Just popping it up a bit if you know what I mean.

  • I thought you already picked a dress?

  • I wouldn't because of the hip embellishment.

My sister had asymmetrical rouching and she wore a sash.  I didn't think that it would work, but it looked fab!  Her dress did not have any embellishments.

Girl until I have purchased a dress I haven't picked a dress. LOL. I have so many I'm still running through my head. My absolute favorite is the Jasmine by Alfred Angelo. I still think it is the most subdued for my event. But it is so expensive. So if I can find something less expensive that I still like a lot. And this dress being silver and possibly being able to add blue...it's like playing dress up. I promised myself I'd have something purchased by Oct. 16 because that is when my best friend will be visiting and she will be coming with me to make a final decision.

  • eh. Try it. It may not work, but I've seen dresses with asymmetrical ruching and sashes that looked nice. like: image

Ooooh ok! It may work but I feel like that trying to find a sash to go with a asymmetrical design might be trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

  • I think it would be perfect if there wasntt the embellishments at the top and the hip. It's not the asymmetrical ruching that throws it off, its the already stunning embellishments. But that's jus my opinion- I prefer to keep it clean.

  • I'd definitely take off the hip thing. Maybe I am putting the horse before the carriage or whatever that term is. I'll definitely post again if I get this dress.

  • I wouldn't cover that ruching with a sash - it's too prominent and would look strange with a sash, even if you remove the embellishment. But then, I wouldn't get any dress you have to take things off of. I feel like there are too many to choose from to need to worry about removing embellishments, cutting off trains, etc.

  • I wouldn't add a sash with that dress. I think it would cut you in half because the ruching on that dress is already beautiful and elongating.

  • I wouldn't add a sash to that dress.  Between the embellishment at the top and on the hip and the gorgeous buttons going all the way down the back and the rouching on the bodice, I think a sash would be over kill.

  • I wouldn't add a sash to that dress - it would take away from the design elements of the dress.  Also with taking the embellishment off, looking at that material, if you didn't put something larger over it, it could leave pulls/snags in that fabric.

  • I agree with a few other posters that if it didn't have the beading on the hip, a sash would proably work. But since there is the beading on the hip, I would just bring in color through your jewelry.
  • I might consider a simple satin band in a sapphire color, but wouldn't do faux sapphire jewels on a sash. They'll look cheap and make the dress less elegant. I think you're better off sticking to jewelry.
