nightmare

well nothing is ever perfect. I took my dress to get cleaned last month and i paid a ton of money for it, got it back noticed that some of the beading was hanging down, tonight i pick it up from my mom's ( i was there while she was working on it, putting the beading back where it belonged) got it home noticed a pin was still in it, took it out and a piece of beaded fabric fell down, checked my old pics bc it didn't look right, sure enough a HUGE chunk of beading is missing on it. it can't be fixed....16 days until the wedding.

Re: nightmare

  • Oh no! Can get a new one or make the cleaner pay you for the damages?

  • no there is not enough time/money to get a new one, and cleaners aren't liable for damages so they won't pay for it. I'm just going to have to wear it
  • Sorry to hear that! How disappointing.

  • My friend's veil fell apart the day of her wedding. We used a hot glue gun to put it back together the best we could (the veil fell off the headpiece part and the beading all came off) and no one noticed. It actually looked great. If glue is an option, which it sounds like it could be for beading - I'd go for it! Or super glue if it's more intricate. Good luck! I'm sure it'll be beautiful regardless.
  • i don't have the missing piece to glue it back together, my mom fixed the beading that was hanging down, unfortunately the missing chunk can not be fixed, the beading is on lace which then overlays on the dress

If it is something that bothers you, maybe you can go to a bridal store and look for add on pieces. My friend found a sash she loved and had it added to her sweetheart neckline to add a little lace and sparkly to her otherwise plain dress. She also found match lace trim that she added to the bottom. Not sure what kind of damage is done, hopefully it's one of those things only you notice
  • thank you for the suggestion, but with this dress it is not a plain dress. It has jewels all over it.

I hope to God no bride has to ever experience this.
  • I have a seamstress friend here in Vegas who did all my alterations. She was very responsive, very helpful, and got everything done perfectly on time. If you're in town a few days before the wedding, she may be able to help you. PM me if you'd like her contact information.

  • thank you cirena:) that is very thoughtful of you, I have a friend who is coming next weekend to see what she can do for my dress, if that doesn't work i will send you a PM
  • Make an appointment with Ilene's tux and Gown. You can rent the dress and they will do all the alterations for a set price. I paid $300. There are a bunch of gowns to chose from. That would be a last resort for you, but you will have the dress the same day as you try it on. Also, they will pick you up for the appointment, and pick up the dress after you are married.
  • The cleaners are not liable for damages?? That is total BS! I would have thoroughly researched the cleaner's policy before hand and would never take my wedding dress to a cleaner who claimed they were not responsible if it got damaged while in their possession. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I just dropped my dress off at the tailor a couple days ago and had an anxiety attack when leaving the store because I'm so scared of something happening to me dress.
  • Post a pic of what it looks like as is maybe we can help. I'm always up for a red neck fix which would be get some appliqué and cover the hole. To balance toss a couple more on if needed
  • sorry @myriah that i did not research the policy, but yes Cleaners are not liable for damages. We have two in my town one was closed and the other one was open guess which one i chose LOL!

@Jaime we would always be up for that except this day, my friend is going to trim the other side to even it out, not what i wanted but it will work
  • I'm sure it will look wonderful.
  • LOL I don't know why you're apologizing to me. I didn't think about the possibility that you may not have had many cleaners to choose from. I live in a big city and there are dozens. Not all have that ridiculous "not liable" policy.
  • my town is less than 2000 people:) I drove 30 minutes away to the nearest cleaners
