Weird PPD

A family friend of ours just got married. I just found out the following gems ...

My mom was talking to the MOG and asked how the wedding plans were coming along. MOG replied with "oh, great ... didn't you get the Evite?" Yes, this couple sending EVITES to their wedding. I could maybe see this if they were short on cash, but this was a wedding in Malibu and, from the pictures on Facebook, this was not exactly a budget event.

I then find out that the couple went to the JP 2 days before the "wedding" to actually get married. The event was an exchange of vows (again) officiated by the groom's BIL.

Seriously? !

Re: Weird PPD

  • So they lied to their family and friends. Way to go people! Know wonder people hate PPDs so much.
  • Well, there's nothing really wrong with evites. Not what I would do, but not against etiquette.

As for the PPD, that sucks. I will say though, at least it was only two days (not that I understand WHY they couldn't just wait), at least it wasn't a year or something for insurance.

To me that kind of makes it worse. At least the people who do it for insurance have something resembling a reason. The only reason I can come up with for them having the legal ceremony two days in advance is that the BIL isn't ordained but instead of lining up a legal officiant for the day of they decided to pop over to the court house.

You're probably right. I guess I say that because at least they didn't lie for a long amount of time? I don't get it either.
  • It appears this is becoming more and more common.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

So I was just looking at the groom's Facebook page and saw a post from his wife from 2 days before the wedding, and it says "we just got married! I introduce to you Mr and Mrs X!" with a picture of them in front of the courthouse. If I had flown out of state for that wedding (to the best of my knowledge it was a DW) to find out that they were already married and I was witnessing a do-over, I would have been pissed!

And that's very concerning to me...
