Decoration help!

We have three of these huge, ugly wood panels in our ballroom and I really need some ideas on how to cover them up! image

Re: Decoration help!

  • How big are they?
  • My cheap go-to for that sort of thing is plastic tablecloths. you might have to double up but you can wrap them with the plastic

  • I think if you try to cover them up you'll just end up drawing even more attention to them. The ballroom will look so different once you have tables, linens, centerpieces, and people in it - they won't stick out as badly as they do when it's empty. I would stick with maybe some uplighting on the non-ugly parts of the wall, colored table linens and great centerpieces to draw the eye away.

  • Go get the removable hooks for walls, curtain rods and pretty lace curtains (all can be found at Target and Walmart).  Cover the panels with the curtains and use them as backdrops for photos.
  • You can cover them up with fabric or wrapping paper. Or, you can find some theme appropriate wall decorations (that are in the color scheme of your colors), use 3M hooks to hang them on the walls, and use uplighting to highlight the wall decorations. You could use additional uplighting around the non-ugly wood panel parts of the room as well.
  • If you decide to cover them, make sure you're not drawing more attention to them than you otherwise would be.

If you do this, I think fabric panels is your best bet. But it might look weird to just have a couple fabric panels here and there, so perhaps consider doing the entire wall (depending on your budget and venue size).

  • If they're smaller, I ditto the wrapping paper, of a good quality. You could then do some pretty photo display on them. If they're huge, yes, fabric draping. Panel curtains are typically the most economical way to go-Ikea, WalMart, (if it doesn't bother you to shop there) or any of the Ross/TJ Maxx type stores often have great deals.

Perhaps you could wrap them in white paper or paper that matches the wall colours.   DIY http://lydiaburchett.blogspot.ca/2012/07/gift-wrapped-bistro-buffet.html

Or maybe hang a large piece or art or mirror over them.

Or you could just leave them.  They're not that bad.
