has anyone ever had their marriage certificate RETURNED?

Hello,

I was married 2 weeks ago, and we mailed in the certificate/license application right away. Our officiant just received the application back in the mail with a note from the county recorder stating that one of our witnesses made a "strikeout" on his address. He messed up and crossed something out. Apparently that invalidates the whole thing! She is mailing us the packet on Monday so we can read the instructions on what to do next. It sounds like we'll have to pay another $94 to get a duplicate, mail it to all our witnesses (since they are out of state) and reapply.

Has anyone else had this happen before? Should I call and try to dispute it? The form says technically we only need one witness anyway, so why should it matter if there is a mistake on one?

Anyway, I am just upset because this was the first news we heard upon returning from our honeymoon

This happened to my cousin. I was her MOH and her new husband accidentally signed where I was supposed to sign (witness)! I don't know what state you're in, but here in NY you have to get a new one if anything is out of place. The hardest part is waiting and paying for anew one, but once it's done it's not really a big deal. We all laughed about it later. Don't let it enjoy your newlywed bliss! BTW: Congratulations! :-)

Mine (maybe a copy) was in our mailbox when we returned from the honeymoon.  Our priest forgot to fill out his part and mailed it in blank!  The priest took care of it for us, and I called later and verified that it was corrected and on file.

That stinks!

When we got home from our honeymoon and we started unpacking and organizing everything, I took out our ketubah (a spiritual wedding contract - Jewish tradition) to read it. Just to bring me back to that happy day and read our vows...well in the first line where it stated the location and date of the wedding... I see the date is wrong... by a year! Saying we were already married for over a year! I was so upset, because it is a beautiful piece of artwork signed by our witnesses and officiant (all out of state) and is made to be hung up as artwork in our home! I finally talked to the artist and luckily lived in my state and was able to bring it to her to fix!

Mine was not a legal issue, but still a little disheartening to come across so soon when you get home, it got fixed and is now hanging up! Yours will be fixed soon too!
