Help! Will this dress be able to be taken in?

I ordered a dress for my wedding reception, from a Watters Trunk show

It is Watters DID style Cora... here is the link to it

I had tried on a size 2 (the sample size) although it was too tight.. it zippered up fine. Obviously I plan on losing some weight before the wedding as well... but we ordered a size 6 because that is what my hips were measured. I am worried the dress will need too many alterations and how those alterations will be done because of the lace detailing on the sides and the low back.

Can some of you either comfort me in ordering up the size, where as I really think a size 4 would have fit better (I want it tight). Do you think they will be able to take it in even with all the detailing?

  • I am sure it can be taken in it would just be a bit more difficult because of the lace detailing on the side and on the back so it will probably cost you more in the long run.

And you need to order a dress that fits your largest area.  If your hips fit a 6 then you need to order a 6.  If you order a 4 you run the risk of the dress not fitting around your hips and with that fabric and slinky of a dress there is probably not much wiggle room in the "letting it out" area.

  • Wedding dresses are constructed to be altered, and a good seamstress will know how to do it. Don't worry!

  • As stated above, often the tailor takes the lace off, tailors dress, then puts lace back on.

    Two things:

    1) Take photo or sample to tailor and show it to them.  They can assess or you can find new tailor.

    2) When you go for fittings, you need to be your weight.  If you do first fitting really early, then lose the weight, they will have to take it apart again.  Keep your weight consistent between fittings.  So if you are going to diet, do it early.
