Sending Wedding Mail....

So I'm pretty sure this wedding has just caused my satisfaction in the USPS to go way down....

I found out last night as my mom was calling family that haven't responded (past the RSVP deadline) that two of our guests never got their invite!  We sent STDs so they both knew when the wedding was and were planning on coming but were very confused and saddened because they thought we forgot about them!  Invites were mailed out between 3-4 weeks ago and they were never returned so they are just lost in mail land I suppose??  I feel horrible and sent them a new one with a note so that they would have the needed information.  They understand the situation and accepted verbally, but still.

Along with our "lost invites" we had some returned as undeliverable even though the address was absolutely correct, we had a a rehearsal invite returned for the same reason although they received everything else we sent to the address, and our neighbor has gotten a chunk of our response cards back (same house number but the street is different East vs. West).

Anyone else have issues with this??

Re: Sending Wedding Mail....

  • Someone else just posted about this, but it also happened to me. Thankfully it was an OOT (across the country guest) who we knew wasn't going to be able to make it. It's super annoying.

@RebeccaFlower The one was an OOT Aunt that had bought plane tickets to come and was worried that we canceled it or decided not to invite her anymore or something else.  She was worried... although I am surprised she didn't call to ask about it sooner...

That freaking sucks, I hope she wasn't offended. If she is staying at a hotel, I might drop her a little token like a local treat and a note to apologize for the mix up.

That is actually a great idea, I think I will do this!  I made sure I wrote a note and put it into the new invite to say sorry about the mix up and how excited we are she is attending and I will get to see her.  I truly think she understands, was just very worried!
  • This is my biggest fear. We had STDs that were never delivered and seemingly disappeared.
  • We had a few invites just never show up. Two were returned- 1, we realized, was incorrectly addressed. Unsure about the second. I have no idea what happens to them when they don't get returned OR delivered. Do they just end up somewhere in the atmosphere? Luckily people who didn't get theirs knew the info and just called.

We had this happen too. I generally have very little trust in the USPS to start with.

We've gotten a few invitations returned; haven't heard yet whether anyone was expecting one and didn't get one, but it's still early.

Story time: Not wedding invite related but is USPS related.
I was in undergrad and my mom sent me a package. It had a button up white shirt in it that I needed for a presentation. I was a broke college student and I had a ton of them at home so she shipped it. I never got it. TWO years...yes years....later my mom received the package back as undeliverable. Yes, that is because I didn't even live in that state anymore.

So, my conclusion, to @sarahufl question is that they end up in some purgatory somewhere and every couple years the USPS sends some intern to clean out purgatory and then they get shipped to somewhere.

ETA: Spelling...my brain is working mostly, but my hands are not cooperating.

I wonder if people get these "lost invites" months or years down the road.  I also wonder if random people get them and just throw it away rather than find the intended owner or return it.  My neighbor the street over was nice enough to drop off RSVP cards she received - twice!  I think it helps that we've taken her mail that we've gotten by mistake to her previously.  However, I know some wouldn't care and would toss it if it went to the wrong address.
  • DH and I lived on the same street before we met……it's how we met.  When we got married I moved in with him.  The mail carriers could not figure out the change of address.  Some days all of our mail went to his house, some days it all went to my house, some days mine went to his and his went to mine.  Fortunately, I still owned the house for a little while after so it wasn't an issue for me to check the mailbox.  Finally, the mail carrier saw DH and asked him what was up…..because the official change of address form isn't enough.

Also, my doctor's office could not change my address to save their lives.  Every time I went in I would fill out the change of information form and they wouldn't change it.  So one day I went up to the desk and asked her to change my address.  She looked at the form and said "oh you are on the same street".  I said yes, but my address changed and again she's like you're on the same street.  Finally, I said read the house number in the computer and read the house number on the form I just filled out.  She finally got it.  It was like she thought there was only one house to a street or something.

  • This shit makes me so nervous. I feel like I'm going to panic and make duplicates and send batch 1 out to everybody on one day, and then a week later I'll send dupes. Uuuuuuugh.

  • We lucked out. Every single STDate, invite, and RSVP made it to its intended destination with no issues.

  • I thought I wasn't going to have to deal with this but just yesterday we received one of our invitations back in the mail to someone who's address was 100% correct (I checked multiple times) AND  they had received their STD at that exact same address just months before.

I was so angry about it last night because postage isnt cheap! Praying that was our only issue but only time will tell.

I had a friend receive the StD and a thank you card I mailed 1 week after mailing her invite. She still hasn't gotten the invite.
