Just starting and in need of help and encouragement

I've been  a long time lurker on the knot and its finally my time! (YAYYY) We just got engaged on June 1st and while I'm pretty organized I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. My fiancé is in the military and we have to get the major decision venue, photographer DJ etc. completed before he leaves. I've picked my colors and identified my wedding party but I find myself second guessing everything. My colors are Plum and Chartreuse with Silver accents. The look on people's face when I say purple and green is starting to give me pause. I think they look beautiful together. Thoughts....

I just feel honestly....afraid. The venue, the colors the everything.  All of these decision that I need to make seem so final and so huge. I just don't want to regret anything. Can anyone out there relate?

  • Congratulations!  What's your time frame/wedding date?  I know for us, the style has definitely changed and evolved over time.  You're not really stuck on any colors until you buy BM dresses- not sure if that has to also be done before he leaves.  Also, plum and chartruese are pretty different from purple and green, but there's no reason you have to give people any details.  Whatever colors/style you end up choosing isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea.  It's a little like discussing baby name choices with others before the baby is born.. just invites criticism.  But your wedding color scheme is less of a big deal :)

  • Congratulations to you!
Just a quick Google image search of your wedding colors brings up a lot of fantastic wedding pictures. I think your colors will be gorgeous. And who cares what anyone else thinks even if they weren't? The two of you are the ones getting married; everybody else is just going to be there to witness, celebrate, and have a good time. I doubt the colors of your bridesmaid's dresses or the color of the centerpiece is going to make anyone have a bad time.

Congratulations! When is the date of your wedding?

My advice for right now is once you make a decision on something STOP LOOKING at everything else! No matter what you choose it will be perfect for you and your FI.

  • Thank you guys so much! I truly appreciate it. I went and saw a venue that I love today. The Community House in Birmingham. I feel like its perfect. I got the warm and fuzzy feeling in my gut I was hoping for. Is anybody familiar there isn't much information about it on TK.

You guys are right! I'm going to keep trudging along with my colors. I think they're beautiful too. I'm so appreciative of you guys.

Our timeframe is next July. Hopefully we will be able to get married on July 17, 2015. I guess I would describe our style as Romantic, Elegant and Modern. We're not really traditional but we aren't full force offbeat either lol.

I think seeing a venue that I truly fell in love with made me feel better. I feel like I wouldn't be settling for anything. Now we just cross our finger and pray that they have our date!
