My sister is pregnant

Yay!!!!!! She's going to be a first time mom and I'm going to be an aunt! :)

Is it kosher for me to host a shower? If so, any big hitters I should keep in mind? I literally know nothing about this.

Re: My sister is pregnant

  • Hooray! Being an aunt is my fave.

I would ask if she wants a shower, what kind of shower she wants, and who she would like to invite and go from there.

I would wait till she is at least 6 or 7 months along before doing anything. Unfortunately, a lot of things happen early on in pregnancies and it would be terrible to have parties and gifts if (God forbid) anything happened.

Congrats to you and your family :)

  • Yea!

I hosted my sister's baby shower. We waited until she was 6 months pregnant to start planning. She had miscarried before and was terrified of jinxing things.

Hers was low-key-- I lived out of town and was in grad school so we used the enclosed rooftop area of my grandmother's highrise (great view of the city), I served lunch-y snacks and desserts. I have the menu saved somewhere but it included a honey baked ham, 4 types of homemade cupcakes, and chocolate covered strawberries. I also did cute little favors with homemade goodies.

We had 30 people and I probably spent $400, and that included going overboard on fancy invitations and excessive amounts of food.

  • YAYYY!!!!

I'm dying to be an auntie.  I'm so jealous right now.

I have no input on showers, sorry.  Other than waiting until later in the pregnancy and asking what she wants.

Congratulations! You an totally host a shower (first ask mom to be if she wants one), but definitely wait a little bit until you start planning things out. I just had mine a few weekends ago when I was 32 weeks and I think they started planning in May or something.

  • Congratulations! Being an only child, I am experiencing extreme excitement that I am inheriting FI's siblings and will be an aunt two time already when we get married (I am already Aunt Sara, but still!) I think you can totally host the shower, but like PPs have mentioned, wait until later on to plan things.

  • Thanks yall! Good advice - I'll wait until the Fall and then ask if she wants one. I'm so excited for her!!!

And excited for my parents...they've tried to contain themselves, but I know they want grandbabies. Less pressure on me! :)

  • Congratulations! I'm so excited for you. As the sister you absolutely should host a shower. When the time comes I can help you with some fun games, I've hosted so many showers. LOL
