Where to buy a dress in NJ

Hi, Im from northern NJ and I am looking to buy my wedding dress in the next two weeks. To be honest, I don't even know what I am looking for and I want to make sure that wherever I go will have a nice selection and a nice variety of prices. I also want to have a nice time and experience.
Does a place like this exist in either Northern NJ or NYC? Can anyone share there experiences or does anyone have any recommendations, I would like to make an appointment at 2 or 3 places.
Thanks!

@jaz3088 3-5k but flexible (i.e. if its gorgeous and less, that's awesome and if i love it and its a bit more that's OK too.)

  • I would suggest Bijou Bridal in paramus, very upscale nice store.

I Do I Do in Morristown, they have dresses in all range but also a very nice upscale store.

Kleinfelds also may fit your budget (in NYC), have never been but it looks nice from the show :)

  • I used Arlene's Bridal in Bloomfield.  I also tried on dresses at Hollywood Bridal in Kenilworth.  My girls got their dresses there as well.  Both stores were great to work with.  Everyone was friendly, helpful, and they had a wide variety.

  • I would have to disagree with Arlene's in bloomfield. I went in for a MOG dress and they were less than helpful and the 20 year old sales person has no clue how to dress my 60 year old FMIL. We were both disappointment. Maybe it is different for a bride since they are making more money off the sale but I don't recommend that place.

  • I plan on going to Hollywood Bridal (been there before for bridesmaid dresses and they are so sweety), Exquisite Bridal in Westfield or Millburn, I Do I Do in Morristown, Russell Bridal has a great selection not sure about anything else and Jefre in Greenbrook (i have heard great stuff about this shop too)

    Good luck!!!

The nicest experience I had was at Park Avenue Bridal in Verona.

The least amount of customer service was at RK Bridal on 39th street in NYC but that's where I got my dress because the prices were the lowest & the selection was the largest.

Try to make appointments on weekday afternoons.  I was able to do that & often had the whole store to myself.  I only went shopping on 1 Saturday.  The stores were zoos,  It was way too stressful & annoying for me.

  • I'm going to Hollywood Bridal too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Someone recommended Jefre Bridal to me today. She got married last year.

I've had horrible experiences at Arlene's as a BM. Maybe they do treat this brides differently?

I bought my dress at East West in Secaucus. It's not the most glamorous bridal shop, and MIL didn't care for their for their "colorful language," but I had a great experience and adore the owners.

I have an appointment at East West next week! Glad you had a great experience. The "colorful language" doesn't bother me, so I should be okay :)
  • Kleinfeld in NYC would be within your budget and I love, LOVE my dress from there.  They will ship to NJ so you don't pay sales tax.

I had a terrible experience at Nordstrom Bridal Suite in Paramus.  I've heard great things about I Do, I Do.  That would have been my next stop had Kleinfeld not worked out so well.

  • Jaehee bridal in Englewood - I had a good experience there even though many people did not. Kleinfeld was also a great experience.
  • I went to Arlene's as a bridesmaid and as a bride. Good experience both times. My mom didn't like their selection of gowns for her. I forgot about east west bridal. My mom got her dress there. They were great to work with also.

  • I've heard great things about I Do, I Do. I didn't end up buying my dress from a store, so I'm not a ton of help. I did go try on dresses at one of the upscale bridal consignment shops (Cherished Bridals in Pompton Lakes). They had a lot of gorgeous dresses, some of them new with tags, and a wide variety of price points. They also list a lot of their stuff online.

I had a great experience at Park Avenue Bridal in Verona.  I got my dress, my bridesmaids, flower girls, and my mom's dress there.  They have been very accomodating and easy to work with as well.

If you're in the Sussex County area check out The Wedding Store at Liz Clinton in Andover.  They're very friendly and helpful and have great prices.  My mom also bought her dress there.  Macy's in Willowbrook Mall has a Demetrios Bridal and they had a good selection but were a bit more expensive.
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions! I will update with reviews next week after the appointments!

  • i just got mine this weekend at bijou bridal.
    i had a great experience.
you get about 90 minutes to select up to 8 dresses. they have them all out on hangers and mannequins to help you choose.

  • I got my dress at Elizabeth John's in Morristown and had a wonderful experience! it is a beautiful salon. I believe I remember them saying dresses start at $3000. I also had a great experience shopping at Kleinfeld's, although I didn't order from there.

Had a wonderful experience a Exquisite Bridal in Westfield and Castle Couture (but I've heard mixed reviews about their alterations) even though I did not find my dress there.

Had a terrible experience at Kleinfeld's with the consultant starting the appointment by saying "Oh honey you're not going to find a dress like that here." When all I requested was an a-line dress that was not strapless.
  • Bijou Bridal was great!

jrf028. Had a terrible terrible terrible experience at Kleinfelds. They told me I was too tall for a strapless and too curvy for a trumpet. I'm 5'10" and a size 6.

I went to Castle Coutoure and had fun. I ended up buying my dress at Nicole's in Brick.
  • I drove past Castle Couture yesterday and there was a big sign that they are having a moving sale - up to 70% off. I have never been there so I can't personally recommend it, but perhaps it's worth a visit for the sale. We checked out Hollywood Bridal for rental tuxes and thought the service was great, so I bet it is similar for dresses.

Just to follow up... I went to East West Bridal in Secaucus, Dressed to the Nines in Morristown and I Do I Do in Morristown yesterday. We went to East West Bridal first. They were nothing fancy and the owners certainly do use "colorful language" as others have described. They were very reasonable... I don't think I tried on anything over $800. Generally, we found a few dresses we liked but nothing that excited us.

Dressed to the Nines in Morristown was NIGHTMARE. As many of the reviews point out, the owner was SO rude. Rude to the point that even though I tried on two dresses that I LOVED, I wouldn't give their salon a dime of my money.

I Do I Do in Morristown was EXCELLENT. The most upscale of the three and the girls were super helpful. Also both owners were there helping out and giving their opinions. Each consultant had an IPad and took pictures of me in my favorite gowns and emailed them to me by the end of the day. So helpful! I found a dress that I loved, they took my measurements, but did not pressure me to leave a deposit. Highly recommend this salon!
