RSVP time

So my invites we're meant yo go out by today. But then my twins got sick and I couldn't finish them in time. They'll be done and in the mail by Tuesday the latest. RSVP date is August 6th... Is this too rushed? Gives a little less than 3 weeks. I mean truly nothing I can do anyway but just wondering if guests will feel rushed?

Re: RSVP time

  • LOL - @nycmercedes.   It's only 7pm here.

It's a little close, but I think the real question is when is your wedding?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • September 6th. I'm thinking I may have made my response date too soon but was planning on having a seating chart printed that would take 2 weeks to put together, print and have shipped to me.
  • Mercedes, that was the best thing on the interwebz all week.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

This sounds kinda dangerous to me, because you may have more last-minute seating changes than you expect. I just know I won't be working on our seating chart until the week before.

That's my anniversary!  And I'm going to a wedding that day.  Which reminds me we haven't gotten the invite yet?  Umm, family wedding in which DH is in, so I know we are invited.

Anyway. It's a little close of an RSVP date and a little far out from the wedding.  But it's not horrible.  Just be prepared to have people cancel last minute.  Because of that I would wait to do the seating chart as close to the wedding as possible.

Our RSVP date was 10 out from the wedding and I was changing the seating chart up until the day before.

  • The RSVP is a month back from your wedding date and I think that's too far out. If you move the RSVP up to three weeks out, I think it would be easier on your guests to make plans.

Lordy, how many people are you having? That sounds like a super complicated seating chart.

  • We basically already have the seating chart done without the ones who might say no. But basically we already know that 130 of our 140 guests are definitely planning on coming. I didn't realize I would basically already have this done which is why I made August 6th the date. Now I can't change it :-/ maybe I can get them in the mail today instead of tues

Why do you need the chart printed and shipped to you though? I can recommend a site that you can use to set up and print your table layout for the room,. Then you could just write out guest names those little arrow flag things that you can get from the office supply section at walmart and stick them down on the print.

Would be close to free and take hardly any time at all.

  • Once again I will say I had people drop off at the last minute.   Many couples do.

There is a good chance a pretty colored seating chart made 2 weeks in advance will need to be changed.

I'm thinking she meant she is having one printed that will be displayed at the wedding rather than seating cards?

I'm getting married Sept. 6 too. High five!! I sent my invites out yesterday (exactly 8 weeks out out for us, yay!), and my RSVP date is August 16th. Yours seems a little early, so I foresee some stragglers - but maybe not! I know I send RSVPs back as soon as I find out I can come!

This is how I read it, too, and if that is the case, then I think the OP would be WAY BETTER OFF if the seating chart didn't actually have names and just showed the table locations/names (whether they be labeled by cutesy names, numbers, colors, etc.) and the seat number if for some peculiar reason she needed to absolutely needed to dictate exactly where each person sat.  Then she can do all the fancy footwork she needs to the seating cards when last minute rearranging needs to be done (because I guarantee there will be last minute rearranging).

Or...just skip the chart and do cards.  A chart just begs to have people crowding around like you just posted their mid-term grades.  Then there is the hemming and hawing trying to figure it out and then having to come back to look again and still not figuring it out because some people just suck at maps and translating what they see on the diagram into what they see in front of them (*raises own hand*).  Unless you have 500 guests and 50 tables, I can't imagine needing a chart to help me figure out where I'm sitting.

This came with our upgrade package. It's a large framed sign that is placed on an easel. You look for your last name and it says your table number. I thought people would crowd around until I saw this at a recent wedding. It's very large and was easier than looking for your card. Unfortunately they need 2 weeks because its a small company with a lot of recent business. They have to get all my info to put it together, have me proof it and then print. We are having it shipped because the company is an hour away.
If a bunch of people back out and we need to make drastic changes then I will just do cards. But I would rather not since we already purchased this option.

That's my birthday! A sad one at that (last year in my 30's)

I hate those seating plan charts. There is always a crowd so it takes longer to even get my seat assignment. The other thing (this might just be me) is that I have a bad memory and will forget where my seat is. With a seating card, I always have the reminder in my hand.
