Bust troubles with wedding gown...any advice?

Hello, Ladies!

My wedding dress recently came in and I had my first fitting! I absolutely LOVE my gown: Amara by Sottero and Midgely. It fits like a glove everywhere but my chest, which happens to be the area I am most self conscious about. The dress has a hidden corset and boning to support my DD chest. I feel like I have enough lift from the boning, but my chest isn't pulled in toward my body by the material which makes my boobs look even bigger than they really are (the opposite of how I'd like my chest to look!).

Does anyone have any ideas of anything I could do to feel more held in and secure in this dress? My seamstress is unsure if her alterations will give me the support I'm looking for. The dress has a sheer lace back, so a strapless bra is out of the question (I'm not even sure if that would hold me in any better). Sewing cups into the dress would only make the bust look larger--we inserted cups to try them out and it didn't have the results we were looking for.

Here's a photo of the dress:

Thanks for your  help!!

  • I have seen a lot of backless, strapless bras recently and just bought one for my wedding. I'm not sure how well it works for a DD cup but mine works great (I'm a C cup). A lot of places have also started making bras with very low back straps for backless shirts. I hope you find something to make you comfortable!
  • Since the back of your dress is lace, you MAY be able to try a strapless bra with a clear strap in the back.

  • It sounds like the bust of the dress needs to be taken in more so it holds you in.  They may need to put some darts in diagonally below the armpit?
  • Line the sheer lace part in mesh similar to your skin tone to cover up clear strap or bra strap.
  • Thank you for all of your thoughts and ideas! I think I will suggest a dart below each armpit to my seamstress and see what she says. I don't think it's a matter of having a bra or not--since i feel like having a bra will add more bulk to an area I desperately want to minimize!

Has anyone else had this issue?
  • Does the bust actually fit or is it too big?  The internal corset may also need to be taken in at the side seams, or the cups/sweetheart part of the dress may be taken in too.  I had a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline, and the bust was too big.  The seamstress deconstructed the cups to make them smaller and also took in the dress from the side seems.
