Eek - House-Selling

My house has been on the market for 2 weeks. This weekend I had two showings (the only two so far, lol). I got 2 offers. The second one is pretty good, full asking, but they want $4k for closing plus a home warranty. Luckily I'm not upside down on the house but I'm going to lose a tiny bit of money. I countered to reduce the closing to $3k but am fine with everything else - hopefully that won't scare them off because I REALLY need out of this neighborhood!

  • Congrats!!! We plan to list ours in a few weeks and I'd kill for a full offer within two weeks. I hate my neighborhood also lol

  • LOL Full price offer sounds really good, but I'm definitely losing money over what I paid 12 years ago.  Now it's just stopping the bleeding and getting OUT.  The neighbors never fixed what burned in January so they have a tarp stapled up and nobody lives there.  The other neighbor never caused problems, but Saturday when we went there to mow he was fighting with some random chick who accused him of stealing money out of her wallet.  I need out!  I priced REALLY cheap.

  • It sucks that you bought before the burst. I was fortunate to be in an age group that was just a little too young to have bought back then. But you did the right thing by sticking around and paying your mortgage and not just walking away to foreclosure like milions of others did which made the problem worse. Where are you going to move to?

  • I'm already moved out and into our rental house with FI and his kids.  I got lucky that I'm going to walk away breaking even and not losing everything to get out....FI has a house in AZ that he's REALLY underwater on because he bought in 2007.  So I'm happy that we're only going to be stuck with one house that we don't live in, ha!  (he rents it out - we live in MO, and I would never move to AZ unless it was kicking and screaming - I hate heat!)

  • Well that's sweet that you don't have to worry about where you're going! My FI is same as you, I love the sun but he would live in Alaska if I let him lol

  • Forget the 1k difference counter, I would've taken that offer and ran with it too if I really needed/wanted out!  Good luck.

Let me tell you how much these neighbors suck - when I first moved in, the people next door were selling pot - NBD, I figured I'd get in good with them and they were home all the time so they would know if there were any strangers messing with my house, etc....but they did have a mean pit bull chained to my side of the fence, they never mowed or did maintenance...they eventually were foreclosed on. Then I got some awesome neighbors - an adorable man in his 70s who re-did the whole house and obviously took pride in it. He got tired of maintaining the place, like removing snow, etc. and sold to move into a retirement community. The people that bought it royally sucked - rented out part of it, and it only had a 1-car driveway, so instead of parking on the street, they parked in the grass in the yard. They also never mowed. The kicker was back in January, I had gone to an early Saturday matinee, then decided I would hang out in my pj's all day on the couch after. I smelled something burning, I thought it was an electrical outlet, so I got up to look. My back yard was black, and burning halfway across. I ran outside, and their whole yard was up in smoke and it was approaching their house. I ran in and got my tiny extinguisher and put it out by my deck so my house wouldn't go up and called the fire department. In the 5 minutes they took to get there, this huge pile of debris and yard waste that I had complained to the city about went up and so did the side of their house, and it melted my vinyl siding on my garage. Turns out they had some dude living with them, and decided to kick him out. He decided to retaliate by setting some of their clothes on fire in the back yard while they were gone, then he took off. He almost burned down 2 houses, plus it was halfway across the yards of the neighbors behind us. I don't know what would have happened if I wouldn't have been home. They never said 2 words to me about apologizing or anything, and they didn't clean up the debris either until I called the city about that. I went through my insurance to fix my siding, and they never came back - the utilities have been off, and then somebody stapled a huge tarp up over the burned side of their house, and there it sits. I think the bank considers it abandoned now so at least they are mowing the grass. The neighbor on the other side I never had issues with. He was married, but I think his wife recently left because I haven't seen her in a few months ( we're only there on the weekends now to mow). Saturday when we were down there, this random chick pulls up, and he comes out wheeling a dirt bike. All of the sudden she starts yelling at him that he stole $200 out of her wallet and that's her rent money. She called the cops I guess, because I heard her on the phone saying he stole from her, she didn't know the address, then gave them MY address as the neighbor's. Eventually she said he gave her back the money and they both drove off separately. I have no idea WTF was going on there, but that was the good neighbor, so I REALLY have to get out, lol.

  • Jeez, I swear there were paragraphs - that looks really nasty. :(

  • Hey at least the house is empty now because I'm pretty sure if you knew they were selling pot there and other stuff you'd have to disclose that.

  • Still going strong - the house passed inspection with the only thing mentioned being the electric line leading into the house not being raised high enough for code.  That was also brought up when I bought the place (they built a deck under it so that made it too low - I think it's supposed to be 10 feet above the underlying structure/ground), but it passed okay so I never thought about it again.  I think that's a relatively minor fix (under $500), so if they buyers want it, I will get it done.  Still waiting for the appraisal to come back, hopefully we will know by Friday!
