NWR: what the hell, friend

I am annoyed. A friend who moved across the country is back in town for a few weeks, and another friend set up a dinner in Chinatown with out-of-town friend, myself, and one other. The plan was to go this Thursday. Today, 3rd friend emails me and the organizer saying she's out because A. she "can't get excited" about Chinese food, being Chinese herself, and B. she's going to go see a movie in the park with some other people instead.

Meanwhile, it's all I can do not to reply to the email saying, "Gee, and here I thought the thing to get 'excited about' was seeing our friend who lives 2,000 miles away most of the time. Enjoy your mom's home cooking and your cooler plans, I guess."

I like her, but WTF.

Ok, I get the Chinese food thing but then she could have said something like "hey, I really missed blah restaurant could we go there instead and then hook up with my other friends at the park"  or "how about we get take out and go to the movie in park because some of my other friends will be there and I would really like to try to see everyone."

  • That's pretty weak. If you don't like the plans, suggest alternates. You're better off not having her join you.

Ha! Yeah, she definitely could've just said, "So sorry, can't make it!" But the other girl and I were on the movie chain that came later, so I guess she might have felt like it was kinder to just be upfront. But I still maintain that we can do cool shit with our local friends all the time, but only see out-of-town friend sometimes. Hell, she could have floated bringing out-of-town friend to the movie instead.

Oh well. Lame, but I will enjoy my dumplings regardless.

  • Yeah, I'm Irish. I still go to Irish pubs. Lame excuse.

And I can get excitied about just about any food.
  • @KatieinBkln I'm Chinese and totally get excited for Chinese food. I'll go with you!

  • Yeah, really, no excuse is going to work here. Go to the Chinese restaurant. Smile. Ask a few appropriate for the situation questions (How's work, what's the weather like, dating anyone..) and keep that smile on lest I punch you in the throat.
