Flower $

Can someone help me with some feedback on cost of flowers? It will be 9 bouquets, boutonnieres , corsages, and centerpieces for 18 tables. I've gotten 3 quotes all for $3500-4500 but I'm struggling to get my fiancé's buy in as he thinks it's a little ridiculous. Is this normal? I'm sure it would be cheaper if I did it myself, but I don't really have time for that.

Re: Flower $

  • This definitely depends on what type of flowers you're using, what size your bouquets and centerpieces are, what area you're in, and what time of year you're getting married. For example, a huge bouquet of peonies in January is going to cost way more than a couple peonies wrapped in ribbon in May. Can you give us some more information on exactly what you are getting?

  • For reference, I had (approximately as I try to remember from last year) 5 bouquets, 13 boutonnieres, 6 corsages, 4 eiffel tower displays for auxiliary tables and 20 centerpieces.

We asked for in-season, local flowers of all colors, shapes and sizes. We wanted a wildflower look. We saved a TON of money doing this. Our total was about $1,500. If you want specific flowers in specific colors and huge arrangements, it's going to cost you. For size/style reference, here's a pic of mine and my BM's bouquets:

So your quote sounds within reason for me just because of sheer numbers. My floral is being quoted around $2500 for my bouquet, 6 BM bouquets, 5 corsages, 5 father/grandfather bouts, bout for my FI plus 5 additional for his groomsmen, ceremony decor (decorating a gazebo and small bouquets down the aisle), three tall elaborate centerpieces, a large display piece for our buffet, floral decor for the staircase in our venue's entryway, and a few additional low non floral centerpieces.

You could try to cut costs by using your BM bouquets to cover some of your centerpieces. Also what PPs said about what flowers you're requesting will have a significant impact on your total cost. Calla lillies for instance are NOT cheap. Try to come up with a dollar amount that you and your FI are comfortable with and then go back to the florist and ask her what she can do within that budget.

  • I was deadset on doing my own flowers to save money. But when I finally priced out what I wanted, I realized I was barely saving any money, and for the few hundred bucks I'd be saving all sorts of time and stress in the days right before my wedding.

For comparison, what I wanted was:

    - herbal bouquets (no flowers - just fresh, fragrant herbs and California native plants)

    - potted herbs on the tables, along with a bunch of bud vases with single blooms, for 15 tables

    - candles on all the tables, and in the wall alcoves

    - one big arrangement to hide an ugly mechanical/pump box stuck on the side of the venue's fountain.

Even with using discount wholesalers online, after adding everything up I was spending about $1,500. Blech. So I found a florist who will do the same (and probably better) for $2,000. And it will all just magically appear at my venue, all set up. Seemed worth the $500.

  • @KnotPorscha - nearly every post michelle2546 makes is advertising flower moxie.
