Alred Sung BM dress reviews

Did anybody use Alfred Sung for their BM dresses?  How did you feel about the quality?

I have 8 ladies with very different bodies and modesty preferences, spread out over various states and three different continents.  I'm thinking about just telling them all to get a floor-length Alfred Sung in Coastal and call it a day.  They seem to have a lot of options and can be found pretty easily online.

Re: Alred Sung BM dress reviews

  • My ladies wore dupioni Royal (so I can't comment on the chiffon or peau de soie) in any style they chose and seemed to love their dresses. Yeah, I know, every bridesmaid says it to every bride, but one has already worn hers to another wedding, so I take that as a good sign.

The fabric felt nice enough (it mimics silk, but is a little rougher feeling than true silk weaves) and looked expensive in the light, dresses were fully lined (with pockets - was jealous of those bitches the whole day), and were well-structured. I went mostly with them because the price range worked, it wasn't horrible bridesmaid satin, and they have a bazillion nice styles to pick from.

The styles ranged from about $120-$160 I think.

  • We haven't picked them up yet, but my girls got AS dresses in peau de soie (Fresh; almost got Coastal!) and the girls all loved them. The heavier fabric is flattering, and doesn't look like the typical DB satin. A few have pockets.

One of my ladies wore the knee-length version of that one. It was super cute (and had pockets).

  • @lolo883 thanks for the pic, I was actually having a really hard time finding pictures besides what was on Dessy's website.  I like that the fabric is sort of matte, not overly shiny.

I like Fresh, too.  Hopefully we can go somewhere I can see both in person.  I'm going for sort of a sea foam color, hard to find in BM dresses.

  • It's annoyingly hard to find. I really wanted J Crew "Dusty Shale" but heard they don't fit boobs at all. I have one E-cup BM and one who's nursing so that wasn't an option.

Thanks!  The Fresh is really pretty.  I think I'm looking for something a little softer than that.  It's driving me crazy.  I really care about colors.  This is my ideal color palette but that dusty blue/green color is impossible to find.  And blush BM dresses would look really weird with my champagne dress (yellow undertones).

Ha yeah I wanted softer too, and promptly panicked after ordering them that we should have gone with Coastal, lol. :-p Big sis talked me off a ledge.

  • I'm wearing the Alred Sung cocktail length in the Dahlia color for my FSIL's wedding in October. Most salons had a ton of selection to try on and could orde a style even if they didn't have it in store. The one I got is D642. It is super comfy and I can wear a bra with it...I call that a win.

    Mine doesn't have pockets though...

    Gah!  Tragedy!

@lolo883 That Donna Morgan color is so pretty.  Really the kind of color I'm going for.  Unfortunately I think her styles aren't going to work.  My sister hates empire waist and one of my BFFs is Muslim and needs to be a little more on the covered-up side.  And we need two plus size dresses in the mix, too.  So it's been a PITA finding lines that have enough options for everyone.

I know! I think it is because it was more tightly fitted rather than kind of Aline or poofy. Those styles literally made me look pregnant.

I feel like this is a Thing in BM dresses.  And exactly why my sister wants something really fitted.  Really, no, I don't have an obsessive need to make my BMs look bad!

@PDKH That royal blue looks great with their yellow flowers, and I like the mix of styles.  Btw you look gorgeous!

I know! I think it also has to do with my body shape. Even the bridal consultant sad, "honey, it looks like you got something baking in the oven in that dress." FSIL decided that wouldn't be the best rumor to start in our bible belt of a hometown...2  months before my wedding.

MY BMs keep asking me what style I want them to wear and I'm like IDC, wear what you like...

OMG I look pregnant in anything empire. It's awful. And it seems like anything chiffon is empire.

Order a color swatch from AS! I think it was like 10 bucks.

  • @emmaaa Aw, I can have kind of the same problem.  All my weight goes to my upper body so if something isn't fitted around my waist, it just looks like everything under that dress is huge.  I'm not really a fan of empire waist on myself, but it seems like that's the most common option for BMs.

My sister is way more into the BM dresses than I am.  I figure, she's wearing it, so I'm cool with her having input.  Really, I do want them to all be the same color and length, but it doesn't bother me we'll have a variety of strapless, straps, and sleeves.  Oh, the horror!

  • @JCBride2015 I mean I have a typical hourglass figure but a huge booty. Empire is always a no big I have a decently large bust too. I'm weird I guess. I would just rather show off my curves than look pregnant by covering them up.

  • Eeeee so pretty!  Your girls are going to look gorgeous!

This is underscoring I definitely need to go look at the colors in person, because Fresh looks way different online from your pictures.

One more thing if I can keep bothering you.  Did you (or anybody) see the "Sateen twill" at all?  Mixing those two fabrics would give a lot more style options, and they both come in Coastal, but I'm not sure if they would look too different next to each other.

Yes you really need to see them in person. It's much more light/dusty online and more saturated in person. So, uh, don't get super attached to the color online and tell everybody that was your color and then slightly regret it after you order and have to keep reminding yourself it REALLY doesn't matter that much... hehe.

I THINK the purple dress in my pic up top was sateen twill. So just a slightly different sheen/texture but I think it would look fine with the peau de soie.

    PS bother me? Pshaw. Nev-uh.

If you happen to need something for a junior bridesmaid, I strongly recommend

@melgibbs about half your posts are pushing this dress company.  Stop pushing this company, it's again TOS and it's really not cute.

    @KnotPorscha vendor alert.

  • @melgibbs, you've repeatedly advertised that site, which looks fishy. I have a feeling you may be a a vendor who occasionally posts normally to blend in.

If you insist on recommending it, why not wait for threads actually about flower girls or junior bridesmaids? This thread has nothing to do with your recommendation.
