December 2014 Weddings

5 months left!

Okay y'all, we have just about 5 months until our wedding day! Mine is 12/27 so that means 5 months and 10 days. Where are you at with planning? what have you done so far? What do you have left?

Done:
-Venue: Our church for the ceremony and a log house event center for reception
-Photographer: We've already worked with them once with our engagement pictures which sealed the deal. We love them. I'm doing bridal portraits as well. On the day of, our package includes two photographers, full day coverage (no time limit), 4x6 prints of all edited photos, a CD with photos, print release, and (4) 8x10's, (4) 5x7's, and (1) 11x14 enlargements for free.
-DJ: We aren't huge dancers so my younger brother's friend is DJing for very cheap at the reception. He does have experience because he DJ's once a week at a pretty big club.
-Ceremony music: My older brother is playing acoustic guitar for the ceremony (he may have his friend help him).
-Color scheme: blush, navy, cream, accents of gold)
-Bridesmaids dresses: Have not been ordered yet but we decided on Dessy, floor length, chiffon, Rose...any style is fine.
-Flower type: I am going to order my flowers from Costco or something and make arrangements myself. The bridesmaids bouquets will be bunches of bay's breath and so will the flower arrangements on the tables. I am getting my bouquet and the corsages for the mom's and grandma's done professionally. I want pink roses.
-Centerpieces: My centerpieces are going to be mason jars...don't kill me! M dad collects the antique blue-ish ones and I am using those as centerpieces with baby's breath in the tall ones and candles in the small ones. For decor around the venue we are buying clear mason jars and putting candles in them.
-Other decor: CANDLES everywhere! In the church we want to have the majority of the lighting be by candle light so all of the window sills will be lined with tealights (12 windows total).
-Wedding dress: I ordered and have received my wedding gown and my veil is at the bridal store for pick up.
-Food type: We want to do BBQ and smoked chicken with all of the fixin's, sweet tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water, and sodas.
-Alcohol: To save on cost, we are only doing beer and wine. We will buy 3 kegs (two light beer, and one dark). We have already stated buying lots of wine.
-Honeymoon: Pompano Beach, FL. This will be driving distance for us and will be a nice change to go somewhere warm in the December! FI is also taking me to Universal in Orlando!

To do:
-Pick a caterer: This is hard because FI and I are SUPER picky about BBQ. NC BBQ is a Godsend, but bad BBQ in our neck of the woods won't be tolerated. There are tons of places to choose from!
-Alterations: My dress needs some minor alterations like taking in the waist areas, adding cups for support, and tightening the straps. Nothing to big though.
-Menswear: We know that FI and his groomsmen are wearing navy suits but we haven't picked any out yet. We are buying FI's so I think we are just going to ask the guys to buy, rent or wear any navy suit of their choosing.
-Invitations: We have a little ways to go before we have to send these out but I'm already looking for designs because there are so many to choose from!
-Gifts: We know what we are getting our wedding party but still need to start buying. We are doing pictures and frames and photo albums after the wedding for our parents.
-Wedding bands: We are going to buy them in September.

Okay now I feel like I'm forgetting something! Where are y'all at?

Re: 5 months left!

  • I'm getting married on 12/14/14 so 150 days from now! It's so weird how everything flies by!

    DONE:

Venue - The ceremony & reception are in the same place! There are two places that you can have your ceremony, and I'm hoping that it'll be nice enough out that we can have it outside!

Catering - Booked with the venue. It took such a long time to find them but I'm glad we finally did! I needed kosher food and nobody else would let you bring in an outside caterer or if they did we were looking at about $250 a person (no thank you!) Thankfully, we found these caterers and our venue and I couldn't be happier!

DJ/Lighting - Just booked them a few weeks ago. Since music was such a big deal for my FI, I let him find them and they are great. I've only heard awesome reviews about them and the owner was very professional unlike another DJ we went to.

Tuxedos - Went a few weeks ago with FI and BIL(BM) and found some great looking tuxedos from Mens Wearhouse. FI is going to wait a few more months before getting fitted and everything but it's all set.

Dress - Love Love Love my dress! It was a sample sale dress and fits me perfectly, only minor alterations need to be made on it. It's like it was made for me! My sister is going to make my veil for me since she is DIY like that.

Save-the-dates - Just sent them out a few days ago. I know it's late but we had photographer issues but better late than never and people are already getting them and everyone is getting excited!

Colors - Our colors are Royal Blue and Silver!

    Still To Do:

Photographer - We had a photographer but when it came to the contract, she was very restrictive and unwilling to work with our needs. So now I'm looking for someone new and I think I have a good lead. Hopefully we can have him booked in the next week or two.

Flowers - Just need to get quotes from some possible vendors. I never realized that there were so many florists in the area and that there are so many different types of flowers.

Cake - Again, just need to get quotes from two places and then we get to have yummy cake tastings! yay!

Bridal Party Dresses - Need to get my girls together and figure out what styles work for them. I'm still debating whether to have Royal Blue dresses with a silver sash/accent or gray/silver dress with royal blue sash/accent. We shall see.

Invitations - Went into a stationary outlet nearby and while they were very nice all of their invitations were  way too expensive. I did see a design I liked though and I'm thinking of how I can possibly make a similar looking one myself.

Honeymoon - FI just told me that we are 'behind' in planning our honeymoon and probably should have it booked already. We are looking at Sandals Resorts.

Hair/Make-Up - Still need to find a good hair and make-up person! With our ex-photographer she had a hair/makeup person she used but I didn't like her. She just globbed makeup on my face and it looked way too heavy and so NOT ME. Anyway, need to find someone close to the venue.

Ketubah - We looked at some, just need to pick one and order it

Favors - Still deciding on what to give to guests. I would love to do something DIY

Wedding Bands - Thanks for reminding me haha

So much to do, so little time! Good luck with the rest of your planning!

Cake: A friend who is a baker is making our cake. It will be a simple three tier cake with each tier being a different flavor. Cream cheese icing. Probably some roses and baby's breath on it.

Hair/Makeup: I'm having my normal hair girl do my hair for the wedding and hiring a makeup artist. If my girls want their hair done then they can, but I'm not requiring it!

  • @emmaaa  Glad I could help! :)
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I'm getting married on 12/31
This will probably make a lot of you feel like you have so much accomplished! :)
    DONE:
Venue - The ceremony and reception are in the same place!  We'll be in the auditorium for a small family wedding then move to another room for a sit down meal with that group of family before going down to the grand ballroom for the reception with all our friends.
Band- A friend of ours has a band and they are reuniting for our reception.  I've never heard them, so that could be interesting!

Wedding Bands - We're not doing those, so consider it done!!

Photographer - Finally!!!  After searching forever I have found her!  I've informed her I was going with her; just need to send her the deposit and we'll be good to go!

Dress - I'm "that" girl and got it before we were engaged-- not planned! :)
    Colors - Neutrals

    Still To Do:

Save-the-dates - I have them designed, waiting for my engagement pictures from my sister to add that in and then we'll get those out.  Running a little behind on that!!

Tuxedos - Actually, we aren't doing tuxes, but we do need to figure out what the guys are wearing.

Flowers - We have a family friend who has offered to order and help with the flowers (babysbreath) but we haven't nailed down specifics.

Catering - we've met with two, but that's as far as we've gotten!

Lighting-  I haven't decided if we'll do lighting or not.  It will probably be one of the last things we decide (once I see where we are at with the budget)
Cake - A lady back home will be doing our sheet cakes.  Still figuring out the big cake.
Bridal Party Dresses - I told them black and long and I'd help pay for them if they didn't already have one (most do).  I should probably check with them to see how they're coming along!
    Invitations - ha.  good one.
Honeymoon - Unless we get to tag along on a seed company trip, I doubt we take one.
Hair/Make-Up - My mom is a beautician so she will do my hair, but need to find someone else to help with the bridesmaids.

Favors - I'm leaning towards koozies-- my sister told me they were white trashy, but that's kind of who we are!! :)

I'm hoping by Thanksgiving we can knock a few more items off the list!!
  • @tmorris5 You have the big things done! And at least you have an idea about the rest. I will suggest that it may be best to just skip the STD's. These usually go out 6-8 months before the wedding. You'll be sending invites in a couple of months and I'd just save the money. FI and I opted to save the money instead of doing STD's, which aren't required.

  • @emmaaa That's a good point-- I might do the same!  That reminds me, I should probably get a timeline for the day figured out and some hotel rooms blocked!
  • @tmorris5 Timeline! Yes! I'm helping with one of of BM's weddings that is September and my FSIL's wedding that is October, so my wedding keeps taking the back burner!

  • @emmaaa I can totally relate!!  Two of my bridesmaids got married this year so mine was getting put off!  They're both over and now I can ask for help from them!! :)
