Bridal Shower?

I am getting married August 22, 2015. I will be 43 and my fiance will be 40. We live together and don't need much. Is it necessary to have a bridal shower? I was thinking of not having a shower and asking guests to bring the gifts to the reception. Is that tacky? What have others done?

A shower is never necessary. However, you never discuss gifts with guests as it comes off as very presumptuous. If an invited guest asks if you have a registry, you can certainly answer them. A guest does not need permission to bring a gift to a reception. If they want to do that, they will.

It's tacky to talk to your guests about gifts unless they ask (or unless including info in shower invitations). Showers are never necessary. You shouldn't plan your own, anyway, so if you don't want one, decline any that are offered to you.
