Swimsuits.

Okay. Swimsuits are one fashion area I'm not super comfortable/well versed in. We're going on our Honeymoon at the end of October, and we're going to the Grand Cayman Islands. H has requested I wear a bikini. He wants me to be comfortable with whatever I choose, but I know he'd like to see me in a bikini since my current swimsuits are a one piece and a tankini with skirt bottoms. 

Does anyone have a suggestion for a bikini that won't accentuate stomach pudge? Would a high waist bikini work? Where can I find a good quality swimsuit that's not 200 bucks?

Victoria's secret has amazing tops that have underwire and are super comfortable. As for the bottoms, I love high waisted bottoms, and they probably would cover a tummy well but that may not be what H is looking for. They a little pricey but not super expensive, and they are pretty good quality. I think as long as your bottoms fit snugly but dont push into your sides, they will look great. The most important thing is that it fits well, and won't muffin top you.

I'm thinking people will say not to wear something you aren't comfortable with, but my advice is to wear your suit around the house and maybe to a pool to get used to baring more. That's how I always get used to swimsuits. 

Remember: people are usually so focused on worrying how they look in a suit that they don't even notice what other people are wearing.

My mom just posted on FB that when she was in Jamaica last week all these mid 20's girls had on the high waisted and apparently the entire trip my parents discussed how terrible it looked and how the chubbier girls looked better in a traditional cut. I agree, nothing calls attention to your ass and belly like 6 square feet of fabric there LOL. I say be confident and rock a normal bikini because 1. no one there knows you so who cares what they think, and 2. there will always be someone bigger than you and smaller you no matter where you are. 

But if you really don't feel comfortable, what about the Roxy board shorts with a bikini top? Those are really cute. I can't really give recommendations for brands because I normally find whatever is $30 at TJ Maxx. Sometimes I splurge on a Victoria's Secret sale but their bottoms run small.

Lands End has swimsuit separates that are available year round.  My DH still fantasizes about a two piece (high waist) pink swimsuit I wore when I was 17.  I think his memory is somewhat enhanced by the passage of time!

Only because it's relevant-- do you wear size 10 or above?  If so, Swimsuits for All has some absolutely gorgeous bikinis.

Most of my bathing suits are from VS.  I have big boobs and a not-perfect tummy, but I think the key is just confidence and realizing your Fi is going to think you look HAWT.  It's also nice because you can buy one bottom, a bikini top, and a tankini top so you can mix and match on vacation.  This bathing suit hits a nice medium with some coverage on the bottom without looking frumpy:

I'm guessing your FI wants you in a bikini because he thinks you look HOT and wants to amp up the sexiness on your honeymoon. Remember, we as women tend to be overly critical about ourselves. 

My suggestion is to buy a bottom that fits just snug enough and doesn't pinch any part of your body. It's the pinches that make us look 2 sizes heavier . Get a top that has good support or light padding. Maybe add some exercising few weeks leading up to it to boost your confidence a bit.

I don't have any suggestions on the style, but I bought a custom made swimsuit from this etsy shop and could not have been happier. The prices are pretty reasonable.

VS is my favorite for tops. Bottoms I buy whatever fits in solid colors and mix/match. VS does run small on bottom so don't freak out about the number. (Says the 8 on top and 600 on bottom.)

Definitely agree with this. I will only buy bottoms with side ties because otherwise they squeeze and make love handles/ muffintop.

H&M actually have tons of bikins for all body types. I went on a cruise with 39 other bloggers off all shapes and sizes and a ton of them wore bikins. Some had these types that really had full coverage. Most got them at H&M. Cheap too by the way.

Lands End has the absolute best swimsuits EVER. EVER. I won't buy from anywhere else now. They're pricey but they have their summer clearance on right now, so you could get a good deal. And you buy the pieces separately, so you can get the right size for your top and  bottom.

True. I have tiny boobs so I can just buy cheap suits with triangle tops. My best friend is DD+ and needs support and she loves Lands End ones.

Hell, I'd tell him that if I'm wearing the equivalent of a bra and undies in public, then he has to do it too.

I don't wear bikinis. Like, ever. Not a chance in hell, not even for my hypothetical husband. He gets me naked in private, that should be good enough for him.

I too a) am not generally comfortable in bikinis and b) have been on the hunt for bikinis for our October HM. I've picked up 3 and have found that tops with more support up top make me feel more confident... I'm not particularly well endowed and have a wider build so tops without support just flatten me out. Also bottoms that have thicker bands on the hips are a plus for me. I got one from Macy's that has a loose layer that folds over on the hips that I'm loving.

if you want the high waisted retro look I def recommend modcloth. They have a TON of stuff at various price points.

Put me in the "DH requested a bikini for the honeymoon" camp. I found one from Lands End (actually bought it when they had a bunch on clearance after spring break--ordered a ton of different sizes online, and then took back what didn't fit). I was really happy with the one I ended up keeping, and felt pretty comfortable wearing it to the beach. The different sizes are a must for me!

ModCloth has a ton of cute, pinup-style bikinis with high waists that do nice things to tummies. Personally I can't do high-waisted because I have such a short torso (I look ridiculous) so I go with really low-rise bottoms, so that they hit below my spare tire. It's actually more flattering than a mid-rise bottom that cuts right into the fat. I'm also a fan of foldover or gentler elastic around the waistband so that it doesn't cut into the lovehandles, either. I just bought a really skimpy bikini from Victoria's Secret. FI is super excited. I'm at the point where I just want it to fit and not cut into anything; apart from that, I am DONE worrying about excess fat/cellulite/whatever. I work out, I love the beach, and my FI loves me. Anyone who doesn't like it can suck it!
