I had a very conservative Christian friend/college roommate (i.e. homeschooled, one of 10 kids, didn't kiss her hubby until their wedding) tell me that she was worried about me because as a Catholic, I wouldn't be going to Heaven. Knowing her, it was coming from a completely sincere place that she legitimately thought I would going to hell unless I became a different kind of Christian and didn't want that to happen. However, I have definitely distanced myself from her since then...

Yeah last time I talked about religion around my brother it didn't end well. He started screaming at me for not believing. He was drunk but that doesn't excuse the fact and he never apologize. Then again he called me a socialist bitch and never apologized for that either. It's safe to say we don't talk as much as we used too.

@lolo883 - I actually believe there is one God that different religions related to and understand differently as well.
THIS!!  I am Catholic, but my understanding has always been that there is one God who has revealed himself differently to different peoples. Those people may call him by a different names and interpret his messages differently, but it's the same being.  I only use the male pronoun out of habit, but actually, I believe God is genderless.  Finally, I think it's crazy that people use such narrow interpretations of the bible to denigrate others.  Apparently they don't believe in the literal interpretation of the "Judge not lest ye be judged" part.

There we are. The belief-o-matic quiz. Identify your belief system. Much longer than the average internet quiz, and was exactly accurate. My belief system was a match for Unitarian Universalism. I am not very surprised. I like the Unitarians.

zI love the discussion you ladies have on here. I agree with so much of it, and don't really have anyone to discuss these things with offline. DH thinks pretty much the same as I do, and I'm not keen on these discussions as I need time to process info and decide what I think/how I feel. This often means I get bulldozed by someone who has it all figured out already, of who thinks faster. They just make me feel dumb, even though I'm not. Anyway, I lveo seeing the different POV's and I totally believe in the 1 God that humans have turned into different religions. I also have a huge problem with organized religion in that they were all created by man. While technically Christian, though not practicing at all, I can't see how people can take at face value something that was written 2000+ years ago, translated numerous times, and was originally written 40-70 after the event happened. How much got garbled and changed in the process. I also believe a lot of what has been done in the past was done to keep the elite in power (clergy) and nowadays is done to justify the personal beliefs of people, not necessarily the spirit of religion itself (God told me to kill everyone against him versus looking out for fellow man). Anyway, I don't know if that makes sense, and sorry for no paragraphs. TK won't let me do them on Ipad.

My brother is a fairly new Christian. He is totally on fire, completely judgmental, and says incredibly hateful things. We aren't really in each others' lives and don't really know what's going on in the lives of each other. He did, however, tell me a few years ago that I am going to hell if I don't change my ways. He doesn't know much of anything about me, my life, or my "ways," so I don't know who the fuck he thinks he is to comment. We didn't speak for over a year as a result of that conversation, which, by the way, started b/c I said I don't like when cashiers ask me about my holiday plans. WTF?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
