Disney question

We are going to the Orlando area for vacation in November.  Does anyone know the deal with Downtown Disney and Universal City walk?  My research seems to show that Downtown Disney is free and Citywalk is like $11?  The adults just want to go someplace to hang out one evening or two.  I just don't want to have to pay for a crazy pricey themepark ticket to hang out for a few hours at night.  Any other hints are welcome as well!

Re: Disney question

  • From what I can recall the $11 for Universal is only if you want to go from bar to bar/club to club without having to pay a cover at each place to get in.  So you can still go to Universal and not pay anything to get in (except parking) if you know that you aren't going to bar hop.  IMO, Universal has a bit more going on then Downtown Disney.

@maggie0829 thats what it is seeming like to me too.  I also want to go to Universal one day to check out that whole Harry Potter thing.

I'll look into cover charge prices .  . it might be worth it to pay the $11 if we are going to bar/club hop.

  • I agree about the $11 pass.  Even if you end up not going from place to place it is nice to have the option without having to shell out even more money.

I have been to HP World twice.  I am going in August to see the new section.  The only downside is that if you want to ride the new Hogwarts Express you have to buy tickets to both sections of Universal so it is a bit pricey.

  • I don't know about bar hopping, but I live here in Orlando and I can tell you that Yes Uni has way more going on. You do have to pay to park though. Downtown Disney is free to park but only has one or two bar type places. They are however revamping as we speak. The entire parking lot is under construction because they are building new stuff. We are about to have a complete Downtown Disney shake up. It's free to park.

  • I would agree Universal city walk is a bit more fun than Downtown disney. Also, at least when we purchased tickets to Universal, they give us perks at Citywalk, like a pass to all the clubs. It might only be certain kinds of tickets though. You'd need to check. And if you go to Universal Studios, parking is pricey, but you can always leave and come back that evening with the same parking pass. So if you hang out at the park from 10am to 5pm, and then you want to go eat somewhere else and come back to the clubs at night or something, just keep your parking ticket. Annndd just have to say that H and I LOVE Universal Studios (more than Disney). Not just the Harry Potter part, but both parks are great. Have fun!

Dude, CityWalk is AWESOME. Universal is awesome. If it wasn't so expensive to drive from Podunk to Orlando and stay there, we would MOST DEFINITELY be honeymooning there. I LOVE IT. Go do the minigolf thing; we did both courses and they were neat - definitely neater after dark cus it had all these neons and things. I loved it.

ETA: To be fair, I've never been to Disney so there is that.
