Please tell me this will be OK.

My wedding is 9/27. I just found out that my bridal dress salon will be closed on 9/25 and 9/26. Please tell me that there's no way possible I will have a wedding dress emergency that would require only their help.

I don't know why this has me so freaked out. My mom and FMIL are getting their dresses from this salon too.

Re: Please tell me this will be OK.

  • As long as your final fitting is completed by then (and it should be) you will be fine.  Deep breath.

  • It will be ok.
  • It will be okay. Sure it's different for each person. But I did my fitting on June 2 for my Sept 6th wedding. My sister picked up the dress a few weeks later and stored it in her house (I was in the islands). I never saw my dress again until the wedding day.

  • As long as your final fitting isn't 9/24 I don't see any reason it will be a problem :) I had other things to worry about 2 days out, so I made sure my dress was ready to go more than a week in advance. You'll be fine :-D

  • Talk to your salon and make sure that your last fitting and pick up date of your dress is on or before 9/24.

And if god forbid anything were to happen, maybe find a recommended seamstress elsewhere who is available on 9/25 and 9/26 just in case.

  • It will be perfectly fine.

    Why would it matter anyway?

  • Thanks ladies!

I keep having visions of discovering something wrong/ripped/not right with the dress the day before. What if the bustle doesn't work correctly. What if I notice a stain? I'm a worrywart!
  • My wedding is next weekend, I have already picked up my dress and will be driving 400 miles this week with it.  There is no chance I will be going back to the bridal shop.  There is nothing the bridal shop can do that a good tailer or cleaner can't fix!!

I didn't need anything from my salon after I picked the dress up from them. I got my dress altered at another placed, and pressed at yet another. Once the dress is done, it is done and if there is an emergency, you'll find someone to take care of it.

  • I would make an appointment to pick up your dress at least a week before the wedding. That way, if you notice a stain or a problem, there's time to fix it before they close.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Once you pick up your dress, just take good care of it and all shall be good. :)

  • Agreed with PPs. Pick the dress up early enough so they have time to deal with any issues before their closed dates. Everything will be fine. You're just getting wedding nerves, so you're worrying needlessly.

(My grandma calls this "borrowing trouble." I think that's just the cutest little old lady expression for overthinking and stressing. There's no trouble to be had, I'm fresh out of trouble, so I just borrow some from the future so I can have something to stress about. I tend to do this a lot.)

  • It will be fine. I picked up my dress 10 days before the wedding (after my 3rd and final fitting). There were no mishaps in those 10 days. I would schedule your final fitting for at least a week before they are closed, JIC you get there and there is something they need to fix.

YES !!!  My grandma use to say the same thing.  I'm might have to reintroduce that line because there are a lot of people who like to do that.

Actually I'm an old married hag.   But Sept 6th is a great day.

You go over the dress when you pick it up checking for rips and stains. Have them bustle it to make sure it works and that you know how to do it (my MOH volunteered to go with me so she could learn how to bustle it.)  Then you take the dress home, leave it in the bag, and hang it in the closet.  Then you ignore it until you leave for your wedding.  Resist temptation to get it out and look at it because that just increases your chances of stains, rips, etc. happening.

And if anything goes wrong the day of you aren't going to run to the bridal store and they aren't going to send someone to you to fix it.  You just go with the flow.

That is going to be really hard! But you're right. I'll just have to go with the flow.
