You know, I still have some wine and tequila left from the wedding if you need it. And, since I know the general area where you live, it's not inconceivable that I could randomly wander your neighborhood with Irish car bomb cupcakes this weekend.......

I don't think you're being silly or irrational at all. You're accomplishing tremendous things, and working like a dog (why do people say that? None of my dogs ever worked.) Cookies? Hell yes, you deserve cookies, and a lot of fussing, and some parents would be carrying your picture around and annoying the hell out of everyone they know bragging about you, and planning parades in your honor.

(It's a little embarrassing to admit I even bragged about you a little yesterday, when the Principessa spent the day, and she was laughing about the Sister Daughters Sloth Farm.)

There are a lot of parents in the world who are not of the head stroking cookie baking variety. It's baffling to me. But they probably think that I'm ridiculous, and that I baby my children, or that everybody would be ultimately more self-sufficient and stronger if parents weren't rushing in with manicotti and cookies or (in my mother's case) check books and credit cards when the going gets tough. 

Either parenting style can go waaaay too far. And nobody posts that shit on Facebook.

I'm sure that you're loved, but that your parents are more of the practical don't fuss variety.

You just need fussing right now. And cookies. That's not self pitying, and you're never too old to need that.

It is a good lesson, for when you have your own children. (My mom calls them AFLEs. Another fucking learning experience.) Your parents have given you a good strong sense of independence, and your children will have that and cookies, and you'll remember to call and check to see how their stress levels are, and remind them that you're proud. 

Breathe, and be proud of everything you're accomplishing.

Thank you @ohannabelle for the soothing mom noises!  I love the AFLE term.  This is definitely AFLE.

Fi and I have talked a lot about striking the kind of balance you suggest.  *crossed fingers* Hopefully we'll be able to figure out how to give them attention at time like this, without spoiling the shit out of them.
