Fainted at my fitting appt

I had my first fitting appointment yesterday and I fainted for the 2nd time in my life. I kept saying the dress was too tight (it was actually the bra, it turns out) and everyone was telling me I'd be okay. PSA to brides-to-be out there: eat something beforehand, bring water along, and make sure you're heard if something doesn't feel right.

Has anyone else out there fainted at their fitting appointment? Or at their wedding?

A close friend of mine fainted at prom back in high school because her dress was too tight, it does happen!  For her, she had a really form fitting dress. She bought the dress at the peak of the athletic season and it was snug.  When prom came around the athletic season was over and she admittingly put on just a few pounds, which was enough to make it too tight.  She made it half way through dinner and suddenly fell off her chair and onto the floor, it was quite eventfull!

You DO NOT want it happening at your wedding.  Make sure everything fits correctly and you're comfortable - it's a long day!

  • Oh my god! Yikes. I thought that was only something that happens in movies. Hope you're feeling better!
  • I'd follow up with your PCP, just to be on the safe side.  Glad you're feeling better!

  • Thanks! I do feel okay now. Just a little nervous that it might happen on the wedding day, but I'll make sure to take better care of myself. The best part about it was this really sweet nurse that rushed out of her dressing room in her underwear to make sure I was okay! I know they're supposed to do that, but I still thought it was the nicest thing.

Eesh! That must have been scary. Glad you're okay, though.

Too-tight dresses are for the birds. My girlfriend recently got married and after she put on the dress on the way to the ceremony she couldn't even take a deep breath because her dress was so tight. This caused her to panic and we had to unzip her in the limo. Fortunately she was okay & did a dress change after the ceremony.

  • I almost fainted on the first day of high school.  I had black spots and somehow found my way tot he bathroom blind and sat down with my head between my legs.  I then went to the infirmary and slept for an hour or so.  I had no idea what was going on the rest of the day cos I missed the first couple of classes, but I'm so glad I didn't pass out in front of anyone.  That would have been a shitty way to start high school.

    Hope you're feeling better

  • I almost fainted at my final fitting. I had been working out a lot and apparently my back and shoulders got really jacked and I wasn't aware of it.
My dress was so tight that I felt like I had cramps in my rib cage. Everyone told me it was normal and tried telling me if would be fine. This is when I had my one and only bridezilla moment. I told
Everyone to shut up and then nearly fell over. They finally agreed that I wasn't making it up and the seamstress let the dress.
  • It happened to me at my fitting too! It felt tight and it was very hot! I am prone to fainting when it's hot and I haven't eaten in awhile or am thirsty. Because this has happened before I recognize it as it's coming on and can usually just avoid it. Luckily my mom and sister were both there. As soon as I felt it coming on I wanted OUT of the dress (as there were pins in it etc), they quickly help me out of it as I was getting more and more dizzy. Then I laid on the ground in just my underwear and the seamstress got me a cold compress for my head and some water! The day of the wedding I made up a schedule of when to eat and drink through out the day to make sure my blood sugar wouldn't drop or get dehydrated and I was totally fine the entire wedding (plus it wasn't nearly as hot!)

  • Oh, geez, be careful!  I have fainted before but only because of concussions (more than once... thanks, high school).  It's really disorienting and awful.  Take care of yourself on your wedding day!

  • I fainted during our engagement photos. And then I got up and finished because dammit, I am stubborn and I already paid for the photographers. But seriously, I definitely second eating and drinking water. I wasn't feeling well that day, so I hadn't eaten/drank much. By the time 4 p.m. rolled around, my body was not happy. I thought I could make it through okay, but obviously that was not the case.

I don't think that counts as being a bridezilla.  There I times where I don't think you are required to be polite, one of those times is when your health or safety is at risk.

  • A relative fainted at her wedding because she was pregnant. I was also at a wedding where the best man collapsed at the alter. One of the guests was a trauma nurse so he evaluated him, got him up and out of the sanctuary and the rest of the wedding went on like nothing ever happened. Apparently the guy had been under a lot of stress and hadn't slept much the night before.

There are so many Youtube videos of BM/GM fainting in the heat at outdoor weddings.  Hydrate, people!  And if you're going to be outside in triple digits with no shade, maybe let your WP sit down, hm?

  • That's scary!! I thought I was going to at my brother's wedding. I kept asking the other BM to loosen my corset back. So when I went to buy my gown and they recommended that size I said um nope, next one up please!

Man, that's awful! One of my bridesmaids had the worst alterations done to her dress. She's a tiny thing and they managed to make her dress about the size of a baby doll. She put it on and started hyperventilating. I could tell she was in a complete panic about the fit and the very idea of wearing the dress all day. I went over and undid the eye hook which gave her a little bit more room and it made a huge difference. Thankfully, the zipper stayed up.

If something doesn't feel right- definitely don't shut up until they fix it! You don't want to be uncomfortable at your wedding.

  • Yeah, I'm super nervous about going back to pick it up because I really, really hope they didn't make it too small. I lost 12 pounds since I bought the dress, so they were trying to take it in a lot. I think they got carried away. Or maybe it was just the long-line bra being on the tightest hook that did it. Ugh, I have too much going on to stress about this!
