Flameless candles bright enough? Other lighting ideas during dancing?

Hi, there!

I've been thinking about the lighting for my reception, specifically when the dance light rig is lighting up the dance floor and surrounding area.  I don't want the lights in the rest of the ballroom to be on BUT I want people who aren't dancing to be able to see to continue to snack, socialize, etc.  We'll probably do some (medium bright) uplighting along the walls but what about the tables?  Open flames make me nervous, though!  Have any of you used flameless candles for primary light at a table and, if so, how was your experience with them?  Were they bright enough?  Did you have to use a bunch of them at each table?  Did the batteries last?

Another idea is floating candles.  I have never used them before so I don't know -- does the water distribute the light at all?

Thanks for your input and advice!
