  • @TwoDimes- I love your venue! That deck is fantastic, we're hoping to have cocktail hour on the deck at our venue as well, as long as the weather cooperates.

  • @500days Have you ever been to Blissful Meadows in Uxbridge? It's not quite as grand as that one but it has a really nice deck overlooking the golf course, pretty similar just smaller.

  • @Kelani23 That stinks, but thank goodness for having a second fridge. Also my venue did the same thing with my deposit check. As long as they're holding your date it should be all good though.

@TwoDimes that venue is sooo beautiful. The pictures make it look like it has kind of a midwestern feel to it...it's making me miss home. Have you set a date yet?

  • Good morning! Its been a rough one and I came into work an hour and half late because of last night...

FI went to the ER after our premarital counseling. He was in a lot of pain and started feeling nauseated and light headed.  We waited in the ER for a long time before we finally got a room. They took a urine sample, did blood work, and a CT Scan. Everything came back normal. Nothing was wrong with his appendix or gallbladder. No gallstones, kidney stones, hernias, inflammation, nothing. They have no idea why he is having so much pain in his right lower quadrant.  He was released with pain medication and nausea medication and given the name of a doctor to call and set an appt up with.  He will see him on Tuesday.  FI is still leaving for Canada this evening and will hopefully be feeling better now that he has some medication to help with the pain.

I'm glad that his tests came back normal, but I hate that they don't know the cause of the pain.  FI was keeling over in pain last night. I hate that he hurts but I'm glad that he didn't need surgery. We didn't get home from the ER until 2 am so I'm exhausted and groggy this morning.

  • @jenna8984- Just checked it out! Very similar. I'm having my wedding at Bittersweet Farm in Westport- super rustic....but yet that is not my theme! FI just loves the wood everywhere.
  • @severmilli12 - That is so frustrating. It's the worst when you feel like something is wrong but nothing shows up. I hope he feels better!

  • @swazzle @twodimes thanks! Its like a double-edged sword which sucks. I'm really glad its nothing serious, but he's still in a lot of pain and no one knows why. I'm hoping its something that will go away over time. I just really hope it doesn't ruin his Canada trip because he's been so excited about going.

@Swazzle @500days @southernpeach89 @Hummingbird125 All of your food sounds so amazing! I want to eat it all!!!!

@Blackbird230 I'm glad your job news is looking up!

@TwoDimes I love your venue! Your coordinator sounds so wonderful!!!

This evening we have our final pre-marital counseling session! Woo! I actually forgot our form that our pastor needs to sign to declare we completed counseling so I need to run home during lunch and grab that plus our other materials from previous sessions. Anndddd that's about it for us today! Last night FI and I painted three hallway doors and I finished touching up the trim. We both ended up falling asleep on the couch and woke up randomly around 2 am to finally actually go to bed so I'm pretty tired this morning.

  • @Twodimes wow your venue is gorgeous!

    Anniversary

  • @500days Nice!! I've never been there but I like the wood look and don't think it necessarily means everything has to be labeled rustic.

@severmilli12 That sucks. Good he didn't need emergency surgery but bad because it's gotta be something out of the ordinary. Hoping he feels ok for his trip!

@twodimes That's so cool that it's so close to your parents' house! Mine is an hour away which makes it a little more difficult but no biggie!

  • @severmilli12, I hope he feels better soon! It sucks they couldn't figure out what was wrong.

    @TwoDimes, gorgeous venue!

Self-actuating on-off switch on my autoclave. I watched it trigger. What the ever-loving hell?
  • @LaPeanut1018 -Yay for almost being done with pre-marital counseling! Now you get your discount and can go apply for your marriage license!
  • @severmilli12 - Ugh, I'm sorry to hear you're in the same boat as we are. So frustrating that they can't figure out what's wrong so they just sent him home with pain meds. I hope he starts feeling better and is okay while he's away.

@KeptInStitches - That is amazing! I'm glad all your hard work paid off!

@swazzle The calamari or the eggplant truffle fries sound delicious for the appetizer, and the pork sounds awesome for the dinner. It all sounds so good! You're going to feast like royalty tonight.

@buddysmom80 I'm sorry there's still so much tension at home. :( I really hope you guys are able to work things out tonight so that CAKE TASTING this weekend is 100% awesome.

@blackbird230 YAY! Silver linings! So glad the job situation isn't quite as dire as previously thought. Hopefully you'll be transferred and won't have to worry about layoffs at all. Fingers crossed too for your FI!

@Hummingbird125 Congrats on booking all the big WR things!

@southernpeach89 Congrats on making it to the playoffs! That's so awesome!

@blabla89 You know, in some diets, bacon is totally OK. The keto diet is all protein and no carbs, and bacon is one of the things people are allowed to eat. I could get on board with that kind of thing! lol

@KeptInStitches We watched Sharknado last year at our housewarming party and made up some drinking game to go with it. It's one of those movies that's so bad it's good. Plus Tara Reid plays a mom in the first one, so it's one of those things you just have to see.

@500days I'm sorry you had such a bad experience dress shopping. :( That really sucks. But yay for surprise baseball games! Sounds like you've got a keeper there.

@TwoDimes OMG THAT'S SO EXCITING! All caps were totally required to really show the excitement. lol. But seriously! Your venue sounds amazing, your coordinator sounds amazing, and HOORAY FOR ONE YEAR OUT! YAY!

@jenna8984 I'll be living vicariously through you tonight. Greek food is delicious. Have fun with your friend and her family!

@peaseblossom55 Let us know what the ortho says about H's knee! I really hope it's nothing too terrible. :-\

@lmcooper86 I'm sorry FI still has the headaches :( I really hope the meds help alleviate the pain soon. At least you don't have to worry about your dress on top of everything though! That's really great news that they can do alterations on it. I can't wait to see what the finished product looks like :)

@kelani23 sorry to hear about your fridge! When it rains, it pours!

@severmill12 I'm so glad it's nothing too serious, but that's incredibly frustrating that you still have no idea what's causing the pain. Hopefully the meds help, especially while he's in Canada. *hugs*

I've been feeling kind of blah lately. I think I'm still tired from the move last weekend... and I also probably have a sinus infection. I'm avoiding going to the ENT though because I don't want to be on antibiotics when we go to Cancun in 10 days...

FI has been working late all week. :( No me gusta.

Work is crazy. We upgraded our CRM, which manages all of our member and vendor contact info, subscription info, billing history, correspondence history, etc... my job is 90% CRM-based. The upgrade is super confusing and has quite a few glitches still, so it's been an interesting week at work to say the least.

I finally made it out to a gym last night for the first time in like 2 weeks. The apartment gym is right next to my apartment, so I ventured out there to see what all it had. Not too bad for an apartment gym. Treadmills and ellipticals, free weights, and a few weight machines. I can dig it. Tonight I'm going to drive to one of the nearby 24 Hour Fitness gyms to check it out. Somehow even though I'm on my period, haven't worked out in a long time, and ate like crap over the weekend, I've lost about 2 pounds. So hey, that's cool.

This weekend FI and I need to clean a few last-minute things at the old place and then turn in our keys. We also really need to finish unpacking at the new place... and we need to buy beach towels, swim trunks for him, and hats for the Cancun trip. We're both so pale we glow in the dark, so we'll need tons of sun screen and hats for the beach. We're going with our friend J, who is Mexican, so it'll be funny to see how red we get and how tan J gets. Is it August 10th yet? :(

Also, completely forgot about my niece's 13th birthday tomorrow! Shit! She lives in Hotlanta, so I won't get to see her until Thanksgiving, but I hate sending gifts late. My brother said she's turning into a hipster. :-P I joked that I was going to buy her a few seasons of Portlandia. I think at this point I'll just send a gift card to Urban though.

I also need to get allergy shots today. Infinite sadness.

So yeah, that's all that's going on here. Nothing too exciting.

ETA: What are everyone's opinions on Save the Dates? I know they're only "necessary" if you're inviting OOT guests (which we are), having a destination wedding, or a holiday-weekend wedding (I don't think Halloween weekend really counts)... but are they something people really expect? Or is it OK if I don't have them at all? FI mentioned emailed Save the Dates to save on money, but that doesn't appeal to me really. I was thinking of DIYing some bookmark Save the Dates since I'm librarian and we both love reading... but the cost of mailing anything at all in bulk is so damn expensive. Thoughts? Did y'all do Save the Dates? We may just skip them all together.

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • @Eilis1228 -We did Save The Dates because we had a lot of OOT guests and our guest number was rather large so we felt that it was important to inform all of our guests early on, "hey we are getting married on this date so put it on your calendar lol".

I Don't think that they are always necessary but I've always appreciated receiving one so I can make all the arrangements needed. I think the bookmarks would be a super cute idea! I've never seen that before!
  • @swazzle good story: one time at restaurant week H ordered some sort of like...seafood pasta dish with truffle oil.  Turns out he's apparently allergic to truffle oil, lol.  Luckily his mouth was just like oh hellz no, you're not putting that in me and he just had to drink like 3 glasses of water to recover (and avoid the truffle oil for the rest of the dish) but um, yea.  Good times.  Don't be allergic to truffle oil like my H!

Today is a pretty chill day in the blue&white household.  Highlights include paying for H's car registration and getting him some peroxide at the store because he has a weird looking cut on his hand lol.  Then of course, I get to go to work later.  BUT I'M OFF TOMORROW SO IT'S OKAY.

Also, tomorrow is 8/1 so I will begin to apply for new jobs in every field imaginable (education or not).  So does anyone have any ideas on how to rewrite my resume so that it looks desirable for like a non science/education job?  Because my job history is like "I teach math, bio, and chem a lot" (for the last 9 years) and I have a MS in biochemistry.  I really just want to leave my MS off my resume, but I feel that may be in some way unethical/lying?  I will also be applying to some research jobs at the local university but given I hate research I'd almost rather do something completely unrelated.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @Swazzle That all sounds so good! I wouldn't be able to choose at all!

@Blackbird230  Good luck to your FI! And that's some promising news!

@500days & @Swazzle I'm so jealous of you both being able to go to Fenway!

    @twodimes I love that venue!

@severmilli12lmcooper86  I hope your FIs start feeling better soon!

Not much is new with me. BF ordered tickets for us to see Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, since we love watching Marvel movies together. So I'm excited about that! While he's at work, I think I may go out for a run for my second day of C25k now that my legs have recovered. I think I may have shin splints, so that may be putting a damper on the trying to run thing.

Other than that, I may run to the store and find something to wrap my roommate's awkwardly shaped bridal shower gift in so I have everything ready for it. Do they make gift bags big enough to hold a large set of mixing bowls?

  • @eilis1228 - I did STDs but I handed them out (no mailing costs) - I had magnets made.  I think it's nice to receive them as a heads up/reminder not to book anything on that date.

Also - this one is for you:

@eilis1228 - If you go to the doctor now and get antibiotics your sinus infection will (most likely) be all better in less than 10 days!

You don't HAVE to have STDs but I think they're a nice touch to give a heads up a little earlier than the 6ish weeks before the wedding when invitations are sent. You could do a postcard to save money too, stamps are cheaper than mailing a regular "letter" and you don't need an envelope.

Here are ours (the picture of us is a magnet that can be removed from the card):

ETA: That must be an old proof of our STD, we changed "marriage" to "wedding" on the final copy.

  • @eilis1228 it's not the bacon that's the problem...it's the french toast sticks that are on the menu next to the bacon, and the syrup that goes with them. So really it's the syrup that's the problem, you know? I could totally do a bacon diet though. But I got a chicken biscuit this morning, so I'm a happy laura.

@blackbird230 that's good news! Sending positive vibes for you and your FI!

  • @eilis1228 we did STD's we only sent them out to a few close friends and family. We did magnet that were medium sized.  They weren't too expensive and were able to be mailed out with regular stamps.

  • @swazzle we totally took engagement pics like your STD pics, haha. They didn't really come out that great, but I think they made an appearance in our wedding guest book! ALSO, I finished 11/22/63. When can we have a group discussion? Lol, I know I wasn't the only one reading. Maybe @goldenpenguin and @peaseblossom55 or I could just be throwing out names there. I also have recommended it to everyone I know.

  • @swazzle, that dinner sounds SO good.  And for $35?  Yes please!

I'm so pleased to see that today is shaping up to be a better day than yesterday.

DH and I painstakingly went through our budget last night, which was a good thing to do.  And after dinner, we got fro-yo.  Thankfully, I got a restful night's sleep.  This morning, I took the time to actually do my makeup semi-properly.  All summer I've just been not feeling it, which is unusual for me.  And my boss is taking everyone out to lunch today, just to be nice.  So that's exciting!  I hope I get some tasty noms that I won't hate myself for later.
  • @eilis1228 - I'm having the same STD thoughts. We aren't doing a holiday weekend, but we do have some OOT (and out of country) guests and I always like receiving a save the date. I think we might do some with one of our engagement photos. I figure we have enough space at the venue and our budget will be fine if we get 100% of our guests coming, so why not give them a heads up about the date?

  • I read 11/22/63 last March I remember it for the most part it was long but totally worrth it I'm up for a discussion @Blue & White

    Anniversary

  • @Blue - I really want to hear what you thought of the book! We could start a new thread?

@loves2shop4shoes - Such a great deal, right?! Enjoy your free lunch today!

  • @eiis1228 @imcooper86 Check ot local places like CVS and Walgreen's for save the dates too. I ordered them online from Walgreen's wen they were having a buy 1 get one free (for a set of 30) so I gt like 60 of them for $25!! Also be absolutely positively sure that you won't be changing the wedding plans. I thought for sure I would not be making any changes. Then lo and behold, we freaked out the 12 week out mark and decided the whole thing just wasn't what we wanted. We canceled it, and we're doing a nice dinner with immediate family instead but it was a little embarassing for me to mail out letters to everyone who got a save the date telling them it was no longer taking place. I wished I hadn't sent the save the dates lol.
