NWR: Going on Holidays for the Long Weekend

FI and I are going on holidays starting Saturday, and we get to go camping! I'm super excited!  The weird thing is we're borrowing a tent from his Aunt and it's got a plug so you can plug it into an outlet and have electricity to charge your electronics. We're not going to use it, obviously, but I thought it was interesting.

Anyone else have plans for the long weekend?

ETA: I'm Canadian!! Sorry for getting your hopes up my American friends!

    I'm in Canada! Sorry, forgot this is a largely American site.  It's Terry Fox Day in my province.

    Terry Fox Day sounds like a made-up holiday. Like Anna Howard Shaw Day (which should totes be real, fuck you Valentine's Day).

    Lol it's because it was usually called Civic Holiday because we get a long weekend every month, so the government just decided to change it to Terry Fox day.

    Do the countries that call vacation "holiday" also call things like Christmas and New Years a holiday? Because it's weird to me that there is no distinction between a national Holiday and taking a random week off to go somewhere. Those are separate events and should have separate names lol.

    But anyways, my future in laws are having a birthday BBQ for FI this weekend since he's turning 30. So that'll be kinda fun.

    We just call it August Long weekend.  There's no real reason in my province, other that wanting a day off in August.  We're going to the Heritage festival, as we're usually out of town when it's on, so DH and I are gonna get our ethnic food eating on!!

    Man, I saw this a few mins after OP posted, and I wasn't sure why the heck anyone was getting a long weekend, but I didn't want to say anything in case I was being super dumb/dense lol.

    Terry Fox day?  Are you in Manitoba?  In Ontario, we still call it the "Civic Holiday".

    And as far as weekend plans, FI is working on Monday, but we are going to my parents cottage August 8.

    @goldchocobo Yep, Manitoba. It was Civic Holiday up until Tuesday. One of our radio hosts suggested it on Monday morning, and by Tuesday the Provincial government had already decided to change it - they're passing a bill ASAP

    No long weekend for me  :(   Nothing too big or exciting planned...
