Lipstick recs

So, I'm not much of a lipstick wearer.  I wear habitual lip balm but I just can't get into lipstick or even the tinted lip balms and such.  I just don't ever reapply them and so what's the point???  But for those of you who wear it regularly, do you have certain ones to recommend that are long-lasting, that you don't need to reapply much?  I'm mainly asking so I can use it on my wedding day, but also when I go out and want to wear lipstick, too.

Re: Lipstick recs

  • I'm not much of a specific brand wearer but I love wearing lipstick and tinted glosses. I find that the lipstick I wear (varies from Clinique and Mary Kay) usually stays on until about lunch time and comes off a bit after I eat. I'll wear gloss sometimes but that comes off probably after a couple of hours.
  • I bought a reddish lip-stain recently that I really like. CLICK

I don't wear color on my lips regularly, I just wanted something fun to wear when going out.

  • I like the lip stains from Tarte. I've heard Revlon has really good lip stains too, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. When I wear lipstick, I usually do a lip stain first and then go over it with a similar colored lip stick. It usually lasts a few hours that way... I never remember to do touch ups, but I'm sure if you re-applied after eating, you'd be fine the rest of the night with that combo.

  • Unless you're eating or drinking, an average lipstick should last on your lips for about 3 hours.

A trick to getting lipstick to last is using lip liner.  Find a lip liner in a similar color to your lips, or a color that matches the lipstick, and line your lips.  Then fill in the lines so that it's almost as though you put on lipstick with lip liner.  Smush and dab with a makeup sponge (or tissue).  Then apply the lipstick over the liner.  You'll really extend the life of your lipstick this way.

As for recommendations, I think Nars lipsticks, Tom Ford lipsticks, and Revlon lipsticks have decent staying power without overly drying your lips.  The YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks also last a reasonable amount of time and have a FANTASTIC scent.
