My FI might respond back to the dozens of messages and voice mails to tell them for the third time that what they did was beyond rude, hurt feelings, and friendship ending. I foresee no change in their behavior or an apology.

You and FI won't get an apology but FI might want to decide if he wants to cut off the relationship entirely or if he wants to keep the door open for former friend to come back in after the (almost inevitable) divorce
