Groom & Groomsmen attire

My groom wants to wear a suit like this but I have no idea what we would put our 3 groomsmen in...? The three options I see are they would the wear the same thing (but then my groom wouldnt stand out which I believe is what he is going for....lol) Wear the same suit and tie but a solid shirt or wear a different suit (Maybe some shade of grey?) Also Im worried that this is the new baby blue suits that were popular when our parents got married...will our kids look back and laugh at us?

They could wear the same pants, tie, and shirt but instead of a jacket perhaps a sweater:

The groom could go with the more funky shirt and tie and the groomsmen could wear the same suit as him but different shirt and/or tie:

As for navy being out of style in the future, well, the only thing that really lasts through time seems to be a classic black tuxedo.  But, that is probably more formal and stuffy than what your groom wants.

Please!  No sweaters!  It looks like someone forgot they were 12 years out of school and accidentally put on their uniform.  No offense intended to anyone who likes this look.  I know a lot of people come from backgrounds where they weren't subjected to 13 years of school uniforms, or have been, but have no lingering distaste for anything remotely school uniform looking.

I like both the no jacket, and the different shirt color ideas.  Otherwise, I think a charcoal grey would look really great with the navy.  That way the suits could be matching, but still look different.  And there's no reason not to do that color of blue with black.  I just have a personal reference for grey.

Your FI is correct.  A suit is perfectly proper for any wedding.  Dress shirts are white - period.  They can wear matching or different ties.
The rule is that the groomsmen should be dressed in the same level of formality as the groom.  If he wears a suit, they wear a suit. The suits do not have to match, but if he is in one color, and they are in another, it is too matchy-matchy, IMHO.  This is not a costume party.
 No, he is not supposed to "stand out".  He wears a different bouttonier than the groomsmen, though,  If they get carnations, his is a rose, for instance.

Those weren't baby blue suits - they were tuxedos.  I insisted on traditional black tuxedos for FI and party, and the only reason the kids laugh at our wedding pictures now is the 1970's style haircuts.  (OMG!  Dad had HAIR!)If you stick with traditional charcoal grey suits, white dress shirts, and long ties, your wedding photos will look great in 25 years.  Well, they might laugh at the strapless dresses.

FH is hubby is wearing an awesome gray suit with a lavender shirt and a purple tie. His GM will be wearing gray pansy with a lavender vest and also a purple tie, but different from his. He will also have a more elaborate tie knot. His Grooms Woman will be wearing a lilac pants suit.

Thanks Doeydo for so many pictures! Except I agree with PP no sweaters lol...CMGragain I meant Tuxedos sorry that typo I'd been thinking about it and I was thinking do yellow checkered shirts with a blue tie for the guys?

It depends on what you want.  This is a more casual attire than usual.  There is nothing wrong with it, but if you are worried about your photos dating, stick with tradition.  There is no such thing as a checkered dress shirt.

I think just having them in the same suit, white dress shirt, and the same color tie will look great. The groom will already stand out because, well, he's the groom and the one getting married.

Also, a navy suit is very classic in a neutral color that can be worn on other occasions.

My favorite option of the ones suggested is the groom with a jacket and the others w/o. However, double check with your venue(s) that jackets aren't required if you go this route (some upscale venues require jackets).

If the groom has a different colored shirt and/or tie from the rest of the guys, he will stand out.

My groom ended up wearing the exact same thing as his groomsmen, but his bout was bigger and in a different color. He stood out because he was the dude standing at the end of the aisle waiting for me to get there so we could get married.

I'd look at different ties or different vests if he really wants to stand out. A navy suit is sharp get-up. I think all the men would look great in it.

lol actually you'd be surprised on what you can find in formal wear if you know where to look (We live next to chicago which helps) but he already has a couple checkered dress shirts ones even a french cuff dress shirt...

My FI is wearing a charcoal gray suit and his groomsmen were told to wear a suit in any shade of gray. We hate the super-matching look. My bridesmaids are choosing their own dresses too in whatever shade and style they want. There are no iron-clad wedding attire "rules" these days. Any rule can be tweaked a little to fit what you want. If he does end up wearing a very colorful/distinct look though, I'd be a bit wary of the other guys totally clashing. I'd say put them all in the same suit in that case, and maybe just have FI wear a different tie if he really wants to stand out.

Since my FI and I plan on a wedding brunch, suits are trumping tuxedos.  I'm keeping the guys similar to my groom, with the exception of the boutonnieres being different and FI in a white bowtie and vest with the guys in mint green.  I plan on the guys (groom included) wearing navy jackets with tan/chino pants.  Time and formality aside, it's YOUR day and if you all feel comfortable and not awkward, you will LOOK comfortable and not awkward as well.
P.S.  Such a twist on sweaters.  Never even thought of that before!
