wedding announcements

Serious newbie question here, but I'm 18 days out (18 DAYS!!!!) and I probably should stop avoiding this. We're having a very small private wedding (just us and my daughter), and I was thinking we should send out some sort of announcement afterwards. Can I order something including a photo afterwards? Or do I really just have to order the plain text announcements?

(I think I know the answer I just don't like it lol)

Re: wedding announcements

  • Your wedding announcement can have colorful designs.  It doesn't need to be plain.  Here is wording:

    Bride's Full Name
    and
    Groom's Full Name
    announce their marriage
    Date
    City, State

No other information should be included.  This is a personal way of informing friends and relatives that you are now married.  Pictures are not usually done.  Save them for your holiday cards.  It is perfectly OK to have a party for family members at a later time and show off your wedding pics.

  • My daughter had a very small wedding, sent a number of announcements afterward. The announcements had a photo inside, along with a 3x5 letterpress card attached. There was a watercolor painting on the cover of another wedding photo, inner envelopes were printed vellum paper.
  • Maybe pictures aren't usually done but it's not hurting anybody.

  • Sometimes pictures are included, sometimes they are not.  If you can confidently feel that including the photos won't make anyone feel that you're rubbing the fact that you didn't invite them to your wedding in their faces, then I don't see any reason you shouldn't include them, although it may be unusual, as @CMGragain says.
  • I think pictures are fine. The suggestion of showing pictures at a post-private wedding/elopement party is often thrown around here.

As long as it was a truly private ceremony, I don't think there's anything wrong with including them. I love to look at wedding photos of people I know, regardless of whether I was invited or not.
