Cancelled Wedding back on

Looking for advice on etiquette around an unusual situation. We cancelled our wedding a few weeks before the ceremony last year because we weren't ready. Now we are ready and wonder what should we do. Send out invites again as if nothing happened? Send special invites explaining the situation? Any place we can go that explains the etiquette on this? Thanks.

How did you communicate the cancellation the first time?
  • Your new wedding is a separate event.  You invite people without explanations or apologies.  It is not necessary to recreate the old guest list.

  • We called people to let them know last time.
  • I agree with CMG. Just send out invites as you normally would. People already know that your prior wedding was cancelled. Good luck!
  • My fiancé and I postponed our wedding the first time due to me moving for grad school and him being unable to find a job in the new area. We didn't send invitations out because we decided before 90 days to recoup some of our costs. We're getting married in a few months and are sending out new invitations without any explanations.

  • I think the PP's have covered it, but I have to say, good for you for being able to make that decision!  I'm sure it was not an easy decision to make but glad it worked out in the long run!
  • I don't think you need to explain. Sending out new invitations will be enough for people to figure out "Oh they are finally getting married now. Good for them. I am glad it is working out for them."

If you want to be funny, you could poke fun at the situation and say something about it on the save the dates, invitations, or maybe your wedding website, depending on what you feel is appropriate. Like "We are getting married.... Finally." or "For real this time!" That isn't necessary though. Again, people will figure it out. It isn't great-aunt so-and-so's business about why you are deciding that now is the right time for you two to get married.
