Need help on gown stella york style 5671

Love this style, the beading is so beautiful! But it is too expensive for me, about 1400 bucks, and even a used gown will still cost me over $1000 (I googled and found it on http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/85176/Stella-York-5671-Size-14.html). I saw an ad from another company called BridalPure (http://www.bridalpure.com/ye3966301-not-stella-york-style-5671.html). They're only asking for $300.  They used the designer's photos, but I noticed they also attached their own photos showing the same style, the detailing looks very close. Does anybody know this site and has ordered from them before? Also trying to find out how to get their coupons to get the lowest price possible. Just trying to get the best deal for my wedding dress. Thanks in advance.

  • Don't do it. It's a knockoff site and your dress will most likely come in looking nothing like the original. If you're far enough out, you could end up finding that dress preowned for less than $1,000.

@doeydo may be able to google image search and find similar, reputable dresses for you that are similar to the one you posted.

@doeydo Are you doing that using Google Image, or are you an expert on wedding gowns?

  • @missdelilah I Google Image searched to see if I could find the exact dress any cheaper than the OP did (from a reputable source) and couldn't.  So, then I looked through Best Bridal Prices under "ball gown" and was looking for a blingy/interesting top and a textured bottom.  Then, once I found gowns that were similar, if they were too pricey then I would check Tradesy and Preowned Wedding Dresses to see if the gowns were available used at a lower price point.

  • Wow! That sounds a ton of work. That's really generous of you!

  • Thanks for all your help, especially to doeydo, you did a great job! Yes I cannot find any reviews about this site, so I checked it on mywot just now (https://www.mywot.com), I installed their add-on on my computer. One of my friends also told me to check it on scamvoid.com. Looks like it has a good reputation at the moment! But I will still send them some emails to see if I can get more photos of real dresses. It would be much better if they can send me bridalpure photos of models in bridal dresses. I really need to hurry up as my wedding is about one year away. Besides my gown, I also need to order 6 bridesmaids dresses. If this website works out, it will save me nearly 2,000 bucks, and that is a LOT of money for me. I will post new message here once I get the photos. Fingers crossed!
  • I'd still be concerned about BridalPure.  I know it's tempting to get the cheap dress, but we'd all be devastated for you if you ended up with something unwearable.   You could always get in touch with the Facebook page Brides Beware (https://www.facebook.com/BridesBeware?fref=ts) and see whether they've had any feedback from this supplier.  I've found their site very helpful.

Be aware that the photos you request may not look anything like what you receive.  Even if they are photos they have taken themselves.

And $2000 is a lot of money for almost all of us!  I was so tempted to buy something from a knock off site until I saw that they were using photos taken directly from the designer's, and I actually saw one of the Chinese dresses next to the original in a salon.  If you're lucky, you'll find a salon who'll buy a bad copy off you for that reason.

I really wish you all the best with this, I'm probably just being overly concerned.

If it does work out it could save you a lot of money, but think of horrible it would be if it doesn't work. I also considered the knock-off sites after falling in love with a dress.  But, I read too many stories & reviews of people who bought dresses from various sites, only to have it be horrible quality or have problems with it (didn't fit right, beading was bad quality, stains, or even some that seams weren't actually sewn shut at all).  Then they were out of the money and had a time crunch to find/buy new dress and possibly paying rush fees for delivery or alterations. In the end, they could have bought the original dress for same price it ended up costing. Or brides that ended up having to wear the problem dress because they really didn't have time or money to get a replacement. So, it's an appealing option with the prices these places offer, but could have dire consequences if it goes bad, and it's up to you to decide if its worth the risk.

Most of those sites do have good & bad reviews, so it's easy to get taken in by them.  And if its a relatively new company they may not show many negative, but they don't have a long track record to know if there are a lot of positives.  Plus, they can easily change names & websites often if they get too many bad reviews, so it basically can make a bad company have a clean slate.  And often if there is a problem, you will get little to no communication and poor customer service.  And there isn't any recourse to fix it or get money back with an international company.

After reading the bad stories, I decided it wasn't worth it for me.  Even if you can't find that exact dress for decent price, you should be able to find a different designer with a similar dress. And check sample stores, clearance racks, or used stores.  Even Goodwill has wedding dresses at times (in my town, one location has a whole wedding section and they send all wedding stuff there).  After finding my dream dress (which was also a Stella York by the way... love their dresses), I did more shopping and found several dresses that were very similar for much cheaper. So, I definitely agree with shopping around for similar dresses. You know what style you like now, so it makes shopping much easier when you aren't having to try on every dress. I even went into some stores, knowing what I was looking for, and walked out without ever trying anything on, because they didn't have what I wanted.
