I know your suppose to get your girls gifts as if you were shopping for their birthday. Considering that... what is the best gift you have ever gotten while being in a bridal party? I want to start shopping for my gifts over the next few months as I see things that way I'm not getting them all gifts at once and spending a ton of money.

The best gift I ever received was a pearl necklace from my sister when I was her MOH.  The reason?  I had been wanting one for a long time in a certain style so my sister surprised me with pretty much exactly what I had been envisioning.  It meant a lot because she got me something that I had wanted for a while, it wasn't wedding focused, and it meant that she really does listen when I talk LOL!

I've never been a BM.  I was part of the escort in my friend's Indian ceremony and the outfit was her gift to me, which was pretty cool although I haven't worn it again.

Probably the best thing somebody hypothetically could get me would be a gift card to my fancy ballet barre classes; they are a real treat for me.  I'd also love anything related to cooking or baking.  The point is that it would be unique to my own interests.

That sounds really cool.  I would love to take dance classes again.  I think I'd appreciate it more now than I did as a kid.

My favorite gifts were a Starbucks gift card and a wall hanging of my favorite poem. This poem means so much to me that I have multiple copies because I basically collect them.

Coffee pot. I love my Keurig and use it everyday. :)

My girls all looooooove hot chocolate and coffee so I was actually thinking Starbucks gift cards and then something else related to their interests like baking, shopping, running, etc.  Good ideas!

One bride gave me a small Coach purse (next size up from the small wristlet). I use it for when I go out somewhere nice. The other from a different bride, was a pair of Coach sunglasses - she let us pick out the pair we liked!

I got a pair of flipflops as part of a gift bag (with some other stuff in it) which doesn't sound too exciting but I absolutely appreciated having them to wear during the reception instead of my high heels. 3 years later I still wear them all the time. In fact, I'm wearing them right now.

I've always gotten lame gifts for being a bridesmaid. I got a basket & fabric for the dress for one, a keychain for another, and from the third I got a wine glass, a necklace to wear to the wedding, and a hairpiece to wear to the wedding. The wine glass is the only one I use.

Whoa? What? like were you supposed to make the dress?

The only time I was a bridesmaid was for my SIL, who gave all her bridesmaids engraved candle holders that held one fancy candle.  I've never had occasion to use it.

So I guess that counts as both the best and the worst.

I'd probably select a different gift for each of my bridesmaids based on individual tastes and preferences, so what I'd give would be situational.

I've been in two weddings, and both ended up having lame gifts. My SIL gave us necklaces to wear in the wedding... And I've never worn it since. My cousin gave all the girls flip flops and a small purse from DB in Lapis that matched our dresses and a necklace/earring set. Shocking, I've never used or worn those items since her wedding day either. ------------------------------------------------------- I have purchased my BMs gifts and spent about $60 on each. My MOH is getting a Kate Spade makeup bag that I got on sale ($29!) She loves bows, so it is black and white and has bows on it. She also loves makeup/Sephora so I know she'll use it. My cousin is getting a small Kate Spade bag in her favorite color-pink- (which was also on sale). I filled the bags with what I think are good day-of essentials-- a kind bar, sugar free red bull, vodka nip, mints, tissues, eos lip balm, tide pen, hairspray, aleve. I also got my MOH a sephora lipstick in a color she always borrows from me and my cousin a Starbucks gift card. I've never actually purchased a gift for my cousin, so she was much trickier to shop for! We just aren't big gift givers between cousins in my family, even though we are super close!

I can think of a few other adjectives.  There are just so many ways that plan could have gone wrong.

Luckily my mom sews, so she made it. The other members of the bridal party had to go out and have a seamstress make it. The bride gave us the pattern, too. The fabric was a dark, iridescent green taffeta and the dress was off the shoulders and floor length, It was wretched.

    That just sounds horrible.

I was supposed to be in a wedding where the dresses were being custom made.  However, the bride's parents purchased the fabric and pattern and took it to a seamstress. We were all given the phone number to set up our fittings at our convenience.

I've been in four weddings and got jewelry each time. Honestly, the jewelry was definitely my taste and I enjoyed wearing the stuff after the wedding, but none of it was good quality. The silver on a few pieces has tarnished (and I'm too lazy to clean them) and the clasp on a necklace broke. That, I fixed once and it broke again. It sits broken in my jewelry box.

One of my friends had home-made beaded earrings as her gift, which she had to wear for the wedding, and it scratched her neck all night.

I get that people are on strict budgets but can I make a plea for QUALITY gifts, please?

Favorite gift = anything that makes being in the wedding less expensive for me. Like the dress, or something I'd have to buy otherwise.

Next favorite--things that I can eat/drink/be pampered/experience but I don't have to store. I don't want anything engraved, monogrammed, or any sort of bag of miscellaneous crap.

If you can't afford non-trinket-y gifts, I'd rather have a really nice, handwritten note that took a long time to think up and write by hand neatly. I can read it, feel good, and not have to keep it in a drawer/on a shelf/etc. I will take any form of "bridesmaid" t-shirt, robe, hoody, koozie, tote bag, wine holder/anything, candle holder, etc. to Goodwill the Monday after the wedding.
