Welcome Bags

edited August 2014 in Chit Chat
I need some logistical help... If anyone remembers, I'm having a destination wedding in SC next weekend (eek!). We are doing welcome bags with lots of goodies in them (2 water bottles, mini sunscreen, mini aloe, advil, alka-seltzer, chapstick, a mini pack of gum, salt water taffy and some little cookie yumminess that's local).

All along, the plan was to make enough for each social unit to have one - basically if a couple is checking in, they get one, and if a single person comes, they get one too. However, we're not giving them at check in because my wedding coordinator has told me it will be $3/bag to hand them out at the desk (ridiculous but beside the point).

SO, the plan is to have them set up at the welcome dinner on Friday night and have people pick them up on the way out. Is there a way to make this obvious or will it be obvious to people how many bags they should take? I feel like in their shoes, if I had a date, I would just take 1 bag.... I was going to make a sign... but I don't know what it should say exactly. Help!

Maybe try doing an escort card thing and assign room numbers to bags? Names would be better but a lot of work. I probably wouldn't realize it was one per couple.

  • Could you put nametags or cards on them with each social units name? Then you could put them on a table that is visible as soon as they walk in the door at the dinner with a big sign that says WELCOME?

Idk. You could easily manage this with notecards and a steady hand :)

  • Hmmm well I guess I have 12 hrs to kill in the car on the way down there... I could probably manage that honestly... Thanks guys for your ideas so far!!

I would view it as a favor and in my experience favors are usually done as one per person.  I was at a wedding where the favor bags were label with our names because there were male favors and female favors so each bag was done for a couple, single male, or single female.

  • $3 PER BAG? That is absurd.

Can you deliver them to the rooms yourself? Is it a traditional hotel? Or condos or something?

  • Have you asked the hotel to waive/reduce the fee?  If you ask nicely the worst that can happen is being told no...

I would put some sort of easily readable tag with names on it to lessen the chance of confusion.  "John and Sally Smith" and "Jane Smith" as needed.
