red lipstick

Hello! I am planning to wear red lipstick for my wedding, but I don't want my groom to also wear it...if you know what I'm saying. I have seriously bought 25 tubes of all different kinds (kinds that swear they don't rub off, but the totally do). Has anyone found any lipstick that's perfect for your nuptials? I'm not even concerned with the "last all day kind". I want truly kissable lipstick that won't come off on my groom's lips.
Thanks!

Re: red lipstick

  • I haven't personally worn anything other than lip gloss or lip chap, but what about a lip stain?  They boast on commercials about not wearing/rubbing off on anything, but I don't know if that's true or not.

  • I don't remember the brand I used but it had a separate top coat that you put over it to seal it. It stayed put. I even slept in it one night to see how it would hold up and it was still on lips and not on the sheets in the morning. It was a drug store brand. Cover Girl, Revlon, something like that.

I have used the cover girl one that is supposed to stay on and it works really well for me. Doesn't transfer to mugs, glasses, or fiancés.
  • I'd advise either a lip stain or Revlon's ColorStay liquid lipstick, which you apply then seal with a coat similar to a chapstick that comes in the same package. I never have any color transfer when I use Revlon's Colorstay --- on clothes, coffee cups, or FI :)

  • The Cover Girl lip stain is amazing. I have a red one from them and it stays put.

  • I've used the Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color and it absolutely doesn't come off or transfer. I put it on for a daytime event that involved lots of beer drinking, that led to sexy shenanigans, and woke up the next morning with it still on. So yeah.
  • my makeup artist used one on me that I loved so much I bought...it came from Sephora.
It's brand is Stila and the colour is 'Fiery'  It goes on nice and creamy and has 6hr wear.  I warn you, it's not cheap..but so worth it!
  • Red lipstick is tricky, there are several steps I normally have to do to set and seal it. What I've done is this: exfoliate lips and put chapstick on, do rest of the makeup first, putting foundation on lips too. Blot lips, line and fill with a neutral color, apply lipstick, blot, lightly powder lips, blot, lipstick, touch up with lipstick color liner. Then throughout the day you just touch up with the liner and a little bit of chapstick. It seems like a lot of steps, and I'm no MUA so maybe a few are unnecessary lol. But this has worked for me. I use creamy colors for red. I find the matte reds make my lips look extra wrinkly because it sets into all the little lines.
  • The exfoliating is key. While the stuff I used was great if my lips were dry and flaky the lipstick would flake right off.

Agree! I can't use lip stains because the color soaks into my dry spots and looks terrible. I never remember to exfoliate, but it's super important before using the color stay lipstick. Maybelline's 24 hour color stay in reliable raspberry is a great pinky-red color!
  • I love Model Co "Party Proof" lipstick in Red Velvet. You need to blot it and give it time to dry, but then I find it stays on really well.

  • I've used both Revlon's ColorStay and Covergirl's Outlast. The product you put on, don't move a muscle for 2 minutes and then put the clear gloss or Chapstick like product on over the top. I like both for the stick-ability but if you don't constantly keep your lips moist with the gloss it does peel and come off leaving your lips splotchy. I'll try lip exfoliating next time before I use it to see if it helps. I only use the two above products for special events, and for everyday wear I do like lip stain best. I haven't found that perfect red in lip stain yet that gives that Classic Hollywood red look like the ColorStay and Outlast do though.
  • Good suggestions from the PPs. I recommend going to Ulta or Sephora and asking an associate for recommendations - pick out a few brands to experiment with, and you can return any that you don't love.

  • I recently wore a Mary Kay deep red lipstick and it stayed on all day through lunch and everything without fading.

I don't have the tube with me today so I'll find the name tomorrow!

this stays on like nothing I've ever seen! I have it in a different shade, not red, that I was originally planning on wearing for my wedding but it turned out to be a little too dark for me for wedding day so I bought something else, but I've worn it anyway. It does not come off! haha. It's super pigmented too so it's a little different than a gel stain that way. It's like lipstick but in liquid form and doesn't budge.

Cons: it's matte, not shiny at all, which is what you'll get with long lasting lip color. You could put a little gloss over top though? Also you have to be really careful when putting it on!
  • PS Just read up and LDay2014 seems to be talking about the same stuff :)
