Hello Ladies!

Please humor me, but I have no idea what to wear tomorrow! I am working as a volunteer at our City's Chamber Annual Golf Outing and I am representing the Arena and Convention Center in our City. This is a great opportunity to network and meet more people in the city. I know no jeans, but not sure where to go from there. My husbands family plays golf, but I don't so I have no golf attire. I want to look nice, but not over dressed as it's going to be warm. I also want to make a nice impression. I am actually really stressing about this and would really appreciate any suggestions!

Re: Volunteering at Golf Outing... What do I wear?!!?

  • I would wear khaki pants or casual slacks with a blouse. Comfortable flats or a low wedge. If you have a skirt that isn't too short that would be an option depending on what your volunteer duties are.

  • ClimbingBrideNY lol that would be awesome

The issue I have is I don't have khakis... is that weird? All my non jean pants are skinny "jeans" in various colors or actual black dress pants. As I am typing this I realize I THINK I have some plaid bermudas.... maybe that would work?

But with shoes... All I have are flip flops, sandles, heals and wedges.... I don't really have nice sneakers,,,,,

  • Just posted this in another thread and it's coming in handy again:

  • What will be your "job" for the day?  Will you be sitting at a registration desk?  Running around the event putting out fires?

If you have sandals that are flat and comfortable those might work unless they violate the dress code for the golf course.

Are your skinny jeans "nice" or super casual?

The Duchess of Cambridge often wears dark wash skinny jeans and if you have some in black or dark/navy blue I think those would be okay.

  • I'm pretty sure PBR pants are the way to go!image
  • OK for real advice: I think colored skinny jeans or Bermuda shorts are both fine. I'd wear a collared shirt.

I volunteered at the US Open and I wore khaki pants and a white golf shirt. I think the bermudas will be fine or the colored skinny jeans with a nice top.

  • I keep laughing at that golf ball. Man, I crack myself up.

I think you'd be totally fine with either the colored skinny jeans or the Bermuda shorts and sandals.
  • AprilH81 I will be at the 15th hole for the closest to the pin contest....

Thanks everyone for your help! I panicked for a moment lol

  • It depends on what you're doing. At our course, most of the volunteers (not going out on the course) wear either business casual attire appropriate for the weather or golf attire.

Just don't wear heels and injure the putting green!! :'(

I would veto sandals and flip flops, especially if it is a private course. My family is a member at a private course and anyone wearing open toe shoes violates dress code and is not taken seriously. Members will roll their eyes and talk about open toed shoes. They almost view it as a sign of disrespect or a sign of public course. They don't like anything that dresses down their course. Tennis shoes or closed toe flats are the way to go. I'd spend 15 bucks and get a cheap pair if you don't have them.

Black, navy blue, or tan are colors I'd stick to for shorts or pants. Skinny is fine, denim is not. Shorts should be long, no more than three inches above the knee. Nice black pants are fine too. Collared shirts are best bet, second is blouse. Usually clubs allow women to leave shirts untucked.

Shoulders should be covered, no tank tops.

Just what we would expect at our course.

Heels would get you banned from our course.

  • I did this at my company's outing a few years ago and I wore wedge espadrilles because I figured dressier than flops but won't sink into the grass. Yea, it was a disaster, they got wet, grassy stains all the way up and I had to throw them out. So I don't vote for that hahahah. I like what everyone else said, some blue or plaid pants, or nice looking darkwash skinny jeans with a work shirt and maybe if you have any nice running shoes. I used to have these Roxy slide on loafers that were so perfect for when you need to be in between a sneaker and a heel. I totally need to buy another pair lol. Have fun, the weather will be great!!

I will warn you, if it looks anything like denim, no matter how dark it is, my club wouldn't let you inside. Colored is ok though.

  • My grandmother belongs to a private course and as a kid I received many schoolings on what to wear.  That was before bermudas are in style, so you're lucky!

I'd wear the bermudas with a collared shirt or blouse.  You need some kind of flat, closed-toe shoe.  If you don't have a pair of Keds or a little ballet sneaker, it really might be worth buying a cheap pair.  I don't think most private courses would allow sandals.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • I observe a hole for a hole-in-one contest at my company's yearly golf outing, and we're required to wear khaki's (bermuda length, capri, or full-length) with a collared shirt and clean sneakers/Keds.
