One envelope - 'and Guest'?

Addressing my one envelope invitations, and have come to several friends who will be invited with a plus one. As I do not have inner envelopes on which to write 'Ms. Jane Doe and Guest', can this go on the outer/only envelope?  My reply cards will say _# seats have been reserved in your honour, so I don't know if the envelope even needs to say 'and Guest' as the reply card tells them they get two seats.

So...add 'and Guest' to the outer (and only) envelope, or, have one name on the envelope and trust they'll understand that by '_# seats' they have a plus one?

Re: One envelope - 'and Guest'?

  • The reply cards with the 2 seats have been reserved in your honor message might not indicate clearly enough that the guest in question is welcome to bring someone, or it might suggest to them that they are restricted to bringing someone they are in a dating relationship with. Adding "and Guest" might clarify that the person is welcome to bring whomever they'd like, whether they are actually dating that person or not.
  • Thanks! A friend who also had just one envelope did just that - add 'and Guest' after the name. I believe it'll make it clearer and look more formal (even though I'm only using one envelope)!

Good point - and that does apply since these friends aren't dating anyone at the moment!
