Re: Iron Horse Hotel-Milwaukee

  • i also looked there for my wedding but ended up booking somewhere else. i LOVED it, though. the hotel is very unique. their prices are a bit high, but if you can swing it i think it would be a great spot!
  • I was at awedding there last year.  Very pretty, very nice.  Everyone enjoyed it.
  • Me!  I'm so glad I checked this board and ran across your post.....I love bragging about the Iron Horse.  We had our reception in the Gallery last September.  I knew I wanted something unique, kinda "Milwaukee", with built-in beauty.  I made an appointment to look and the Iron Horse, and it was the only place we looked at.  We signed the next day.

We were supposed to be outside on the Yard, but the weather did not cooperate and we decided to move downstairs about 3 days prior.  (They will only rent the Yard before Memorial Day or after Labor Day, after it's closed to the public.) The minimum for the Yard was $9000, not sure if it's the same if you actually book inside the Gallery.  I want to say its $10,000 inside.

I had a fabulous experioence.  We had a four-month engagement and things moved very quickly, and the consultant at the Iron Horse was great.  His name was Kristopher.  I'm big on communication and he was awesome.

The food was excellent.  We chose to do "stations" so people could eat what and when they wanted.  We had cupcakes rather than a cake (only a small cermonial cake that me and DH cut).  The cake cutting fee was a stiff $2 per person, so we opted for cupcakes.  BTW, we had 100 guests and it was a perfect fit.  We also had a band and a dance floor.

Since we were to be outside on the Yard, we did not have much decor planned.  I chose my colors to be brown and orange to match, but they looked great even in the Gallery.  Since we had to move inside, they set up the Gallery to mimic the Yard with a mixture of couches, pub tables/chairs, and regular round tables.  Kristopher ordered me a dance floor and linens within three days.  My only decor were antique glass bottles with flowers and candles.  I had commissioned some friends to go set up ahead of time and asked that the hotel provide them cocktails, and when they got there, it was already done. Had I known we were going to be in the Gallery, I might have planned for more decor, but honestly, the beauty of the hotel speaks for itself.  Our recpetion ended at 11, and those of us who still wanted to celebrate headed to the bar.  Perfect.

And finally, you get a free room for the night.  This in itself is soooo worth it!  The rooms are amazing! The hotel staff brought all of our gifts to our room that evening, and then back out to the car the next morning.  We also got a champagne and strawberry tray.

I've included some pictures (not the greatest, but I chose ones that show off the room as best I could find)  Feel free to PM me with any more questions!

  • Hey all thank you so much for your posts and the pics! I went yesterday to look at it and it was really nice I just was not blown away by the Gallery and I liked the yard much better but I don't like the informaility of not being able to have a sit down dinner. I also like you @ jfgreer have only about 100 guests and have a tight budget if you or anybody else know of a nice place that is not super expensive please let me know any help is appreciated!
  • I am having my wedding there in September and I am actually using the lobby and library. We are doing heavy appetizers for the food and it is nice because we are also having a smaller wedding as well. I think for the lobby and library, it was a $3000 food/beverage minimum (if I remember correctly)
