Yes. This is a thing. My BFF and I were talking and he was trying to make me feel better about my wedding and he told me to search "Les Mis wedding flash mobs" on YouTube and a bunch pop up! And it is always the same song. Now I'm not really a big fan of flash mobs at weddings anyway but to pick a song from one of the saddest musicals ever is not cool. The last thing you want to think about at a wedding is dead destitute prostitutes and failed revolutions. Anyway here is one of the videos at popped up.

Wow, there were a shit ton of talented people at that wedding! And they probably always sing the same song because that is like the only positive and uplifting song in the whole damn musical.

I went to a wedding a few years back where the groom arranged a bunch of the guests to sing "Seasons of Love" from RENT immediately after the ceremony. Because after committing yourself to another person, you want to hear a song from a show entirely about AIDS.

I do kinda love the song, though not in that context...

I love that song, even put together a group in high school to perform it.  It was totally not the one I was expecting when Maggie said it was the positive uplifting one.  I thought, especially with a wedding it would be "In My life/Heart full of love."  Instead they picked a song about killing school boys...

Course DH and I picked a gypsy punk song for our first dance, so I guess I'm a bit of a pot to their kettle here:)
