How to address a save-the-date?

Big apologies in advance if this topic has been discussed recently! I did some searches but really couldn't find what I was looking for.

I'm wondering what the etiquette is for addressing a save-the-date. I know to handwrite the address rather than print out a label, and this is what I *think* is correct:

Bill & Martha Smith
1 Main Street
Town, State, Zip

and then for the invitation:

Mr. and Mrs. William Smith
street name fully spelled out
town, state, zip

Is this wording for the STD okay? Or do I need to use full names, etc? Thank you so much!

  • Mail should be addressed with proper titles.  Either Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, or Ms. Martha Smith and Mr. William Smith is fine.  The address on the outside of an envelope, or on a poastcard. is for the mail carrier, not for the addressee.
